Cameron drops twin-bill against Cardinals and Eagles

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team dropped a pair of hard fought games on Sunday, falling 6-4 to William Jewell and 6-3 to Oklahoma Christian.

Cameron took on William Jewell in their first game of the day. Andrew Garza started for the Black and Gold and pitched three solid innings before giving up five runs, four earned, in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Cardinals five runs were a response to CU's two runs in the bottom of the third. Myles Miller singled with one out in the inning, which was followed by a Tyler Wood walk. Izrael Trevino then drove in both base runners on a double to deep left field to give his team an early 2-0 lead. WJC then scored the five unanswered to take a three run lead.

In the seventh, the Aggies started to chip into the lead as Trevino, who reached on an error earlier in the inning, scored on a passed ball to get CU to within two. They then cut that deficit in half in the bottom of the eighth and Pierce Khan launched a solo jack to left field and set the score to 5-4.

William Jewell added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and, despite a leadoff single by Trevino to open the bottom of the frame, CU was unable to complete the comeback.

The Aggie first baseman led the team with two hits in five at bats with two RBI and a run scored. The rest of CU's five hits came from five different players. To go along with their seven hits, Cameron left 11 runners on base.
Garza received his second loss of the season, giving up four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. The Aggies used four pitchers to go the final 4.2 innings, giving up a combined one run on just one hit and three walks. CU's staff totaled 11 strikeouts in the contest.

In the Black and Gold's second game of the day, they took on Oklahoma Christian, who lost to William Jewell earlier in the day 3-1. Cameron struck early, using a Briton Schiewe RBI double to score Jordan Harrison-Dudley and take a 1-0 lead after two innings.

The Eagles answered quickly with two runs in the top of the third before Cameron put two up in the bottom of the frame. Trevino scored on a Hayden Jaco double and then Dillon Turney, who singled earlier in the inning, scored on a wild pitch to give the Aggies the 3-2 advantage.

Oklahoma Christian then responded with three unanswered, scoring one in the fourth and then three more in the seventh, two of which scored on an error to take a 6-3 lead. OC held to that advantage by recording scoreless eighth and ninth innings to get the win.

Devin Castro (1-1) pitched seven quality innings, giving up just two earned runs on seven hits and two walks to go along with six strikeouts. Sean Maher and Tyler Garcia combined for two no-hit innings with four punchouts.

Turney accounted for two of the Aggies' five hits, with Harrison-Dudley, Schiewe, and Jaco accounting for the other three.

Cameron, who is now 5-7, will play both William Jewell and Oklahoma Christian tomorrow in Oklahoma City, Okla. beginning at 1 p.m.
