Dumas pours in 18 points in win over Javelinas

LAWTON, Okla. – Zach Dumas pours in 18 points as the Cameron men's basketball team tops Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 65-61 to secure a postseason berth.

The Aggies clung to a 27-25 lead over Texas A&M Kingsville. The Black and Gold shot the three ball at a 50 percent clip while shooting 36 percent from the field. CU lost the rebounding battle, 19-11, but only gave the Javelinas two second chance points. The two teams were deadlocked at eight points apiece in the paint. The difference came in the turnover margins where the Aggies were able to force 14 turnovers and only commit four.

Jalen Nicholas led the team in scoring with seven points with Chris Royal logging six points right behind him in the first half. Nicholas finished the night 12 points, while Royal stayed put at six.

After a low scoring first half, Dumas sparked the Aggies with a pair of and one buckets to extend the CU lead to ten points with 15 minutes to play.

Dumas finished with a team high 18 points and a critical block at the 46 second mark that helped seal the win for the Aggies.

Midway through the second half, the Aggies had already committed as many turnovers as they did in the entire first half, allowing the Javelinas to pull within five at the 10:00 mark.

The Black and Gold led by four with under five minutes to play in the contest. At the 3:40 mark, the Javelinas tied the contest up at 53.

Freshman guard Brock Schreiner provided a turning point for the Aggies when he finished over two Javelin defenders, and put CU up by five with a minute and change left. The Choctaw, Okla. native finished with eight points, two rebounds, and an assist.

Tyus Momoh nailed a free throw at the five second mark to put the Aggies ahead by three and the dagger in the contest. Momoh finished with ten points, three rebounds, and four assists.

This win mixed with MSU Texas' loss to Angelo State tonight punched the Aggies ticket to the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed. They will play the No. 1 seed West Texas A&M next Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m.

Before postseason play, the Aggies will wrap up the regular season by hosting ASU on Saturday, March 2, for Senior Day and Homecoming.
