CU hits the road to face the Lions and Texans

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Aggie men's basketball team continues their tough Lone Star Conference season by visiting Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday and Tarleton State on Saturday.

Week 7 Game Notes

Starting 5: 
1. The Aggies have two players nearing 1,000 points for their collegiate careers; Tyus Momoh needs just 42 points to join the 1,000-Point Club at Cameron, while Zach Dumas is just 15 points away from reaching the 1K mark for his career, including two years at Northwestern Oklahoma and two at CU. 
2. The last time Cameron has lost back-to-back games this season was against Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State on Jan. 3 and Jan. 5. 
3. The Lions senior point guard Reggie Reid is currently ranked third in the Lone Star Conference in scoring (15.9), first in assists (4.7), second in steals (2.0), and second in minutes (32.9). 
4. Tarleton State's Josh Hawley is second in the LSC in points (17.7), first in rebounds (9.9), and second in field goal percentage (59.9), while also ranking No. 1 in the league and 11th in the nation with 11 double-doubles this season. 
5. Both the Lions and Texans are almost unbeatable at home with TAMUC holding an 8-1 record at The Field House and TSU going 9-2 at Widsom Gym this season. 

Week 6 Recap: 
Cameron went 1-1 last week to move to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in league play. Against Eastern New Mexico, the Aggies used a 29-11 run in the final two minutes to earn the 88-84 win. CU shot over 47 percent from the field, going 10-23 from the perimeter and 12-18 from the charity stripe. Five Aggies reached double-figures in the win with Momoh and Jordan Lewis leading the way with 14 each, Kendall Scott scoring 12, and Dumas and Johann Tate each adding 10 points. Two days later against the Buffs, Cameron got off to a slow start, going 0-8 from three in the first half and trailing by 15 points at the break. Despite outscoring WT 41-39 in the second half, CU's slow start would lead to their 83-70 loss to the No. 11 ranked team in the nation. Momoh led the way with 27 points while Jalen Nicholas added a 10 point, 12 rebound double-double and Dumas chipped in 11 points. 

About the Aggies: 
The Black and Gold averages 75.4 points on the offensive end, while giving up 80.0 to their opposition. They are shooting just under 40 percent from the floor, while hitting on 34.7 percent of their three point attempts and 73.1 percent of their foul shots. Additionally, Cameron averages 36.3 rebounds, 12.0 assists, 8.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. Momoh leads the way with 13.4 points per game to go along with  5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per outing. Dumas is right behind his fellow senior with an average of 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest. Lewis and Tate are both chipping in 9.4 points per game, while Nicholas averages 8.2 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds. 

Scouting the Lions: 
Texas A&M-Commerce is 16-5 on the season and 8-3 in league play after going 1-1 last week against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State. They are outscoring their opposition by an average of 8.4 points with a 82.1 scoring average, while shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three, and 73.1 percent from the free throw line. The Lions also grab 35.8 rebounds and record 15.2 assists, 6.9 steals, and 3.8 blocks per game. Reid leads the squad with his 15.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, as Willie Rooks chips in 14.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists and Trey Conrod adds 11.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per outing. 

Last Time Against TAMUC: 
Earlier this season, the Aggies hosted Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 5. Despite trailing by just one at the half, Cameron struggled late and were outscored 56-40 in the final 20 minutes. The Lion shot over 52 percent from the field and went 26-34 in the win. Six players reached double-figures with Srdan Budimir leading the way with 15 and Willie Rooks and Reggie Reid chipping in 14 each. Cameron shot 40.6 percent from the field, going 11-32 from three and 17-26 from the foul line. Momoh led the Aggies with  23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Nicholas had 12, Lewis had 11, and Tate chipped in 10 points. 

Scouting the Texans: 
After their 1-1 split last week, Tarleton State is now 16-6 on the season with a 6-5 LSC record. They are averaging 75.5 points per game while allowing just 66.9 to their opposition. TSU is shooting nearly 49 percent from the field, 38 percent from three, and 74.1 percent from the free throw line. They also average 4.3 more rebounds than their opponents and record 14.0 assists, 6.5 steals, and 3.8 blocks per game. Hawley leads the way with 17.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, while Corinthian Ramsey averages 12.3 points and 3.8 assists. Randall Broddie is also scoring in double-figures with 10.3 points per game and Jessie Hill chips in 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.  

Last Time Against TSU: 
Tarleton State dominated the first meeting against CU earlier this season on Jan. 3. They shot over 52 percent from the field, went 14-26 from three, and 10-11 from the foul line. Josh Hawley led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Brandon Goldsmith added 13 points off the bench, while Corinthian Ramsey and Jesse Hill each scored in double-figures as well. Cameron shot just 27 percent from the field in the loss, going 7-23 from the perimeter and 7-11 from the charity stripe. Dumas and Momoh were the only Aggies in double-figures as Dumas scored 12 points and Momoh had 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the loss. 

Up Next:
Cameron continues their five-game road stretch next week as they visit UT Permian Basin on Feb. 14 and the Western New Mexico on Feb. 16. They will then travel to Red River Rival MSU Texas on Feb. 19 to end the road trip.
