Aggies fall to ASU on Senior Day

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball fell to Angelo State on Senior Day 113-81 to finish the season with an 8-20 record; the five Aggie seniors finished with 39 points combined.

Prior to the start of the game, the Cameron women's basketball programs recognized their five seniors for their hard work on and off the court while wearing the Black and Gold: Sydney Ellis, Natalie Halbleib, Chelsea Heidebrecht, Parfitt McNair, and Lejha Smith.

At the end first quarter, the Cameron Aggies were hanging around the number 22 ranked Angelo State team who was fighting for a share of the regular season Lone Star Conference championship entering tonight. The Aggies ended the frame trailing 23-17. Heidebrecht led the Black and Gold in scoring in the opening frame, tallying five points while also hauling in a pair of rebounds. Angelo State nailed five threes in the first ten minutes of play while shooting over 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Angelo State went on a quick 10-0 run to start the second quarter and swelled their lead up to 16 points. The Rambelles outscored CU 28-17 in the second quarter. Angelo State finished the half with eight made three pointers on a 50 percent clip. The Aggies shot just 23 percent from deep, and that number only jumped up to 32 percent from the floor.

Whitney Outon provided a spark off the bench and finished the half with a team high seven points. Both teams committed three turnovers, but the Aggies were charged with 11 fouls to Angelo State's five.

In the second half, Angelo State extended their lead to nineteen at one point. From there, the Rambelles did not look back and clinched at least a share of the LSC regular-season title with the win.

Smith led the way for the seniors with 12 points, while McNair poured in ten points. Heidebrecht turned in a seven point effort, with Halbleib and Ellis posting six and three points respectively.
