LAWTON, Okla. – After splitting the first two games of the four game series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, the Cameron baseball team takes game three by a score of 8-3 on Sunday.
Gaige Vines got the start for the Aggies, and threw six innings of one-run ball, while only allowing five hits with two strikeouts.
The CU offense got on the board for the first time in the fourth inning when
Colton Adams singled to left center field to plate
Myles Miller and tie the game up at one run apiece.
Pierce Khan came up in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and slapped a double up the middle to allow Adams and
Briton Schiewe to score to give the Aggies their first lead of the day at 3-1.
The Black and Gold offense came right back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Schiewe got an RBI single to score Miller, and
Jaylan Prince got an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Sean Maher came into the game in the top of the seventh inning out of the Aggie bullpen. Inheriting a runner at first, Maher pitched a clean seventh inning.
In the bottom seventh inning, Prince earned a two RBI single to extend to Aggies lead to 7-1.
Hayden Jaco knocked in
Izrael Trevino with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend the Aggies lead to 8-1.
In the ninth inning, the Aggies called on
Travis Walters to close the door on Kingsville in game three of the series. Walters allowed a pair of runs in the inning but was still able to get out of it without giving away the seven run cushion he started with.
Cameron is now 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play, claiming sole possession of second place in the league standings; they are 14-18 overall.
The Aggies finish up the four game set with Texas A&M Kingsville on Monday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at McCord Field.
