Hedge tabbed LSC's top freshman, Battese and McNair also recognized

FRISCO, Texas – The Lone Star Conference handed out their end of the season hardware on Wednesday night at the LSC Championship banquet and the Aggie women had a trio of players honored.

Senior Parfitt McNair was one of five players in the conference to be named to the All-Academic team. McNair, who is working on her masters of psychology, finished the season with 9.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. The Manhattan, Kan. native had 14 games with 10 or more points this season and scored a career-high 25 points against Harding on Nov. 24.

Four other LSC student-athletes on the All-Academic team, including Tarleton State's Katie Webster, who was named the Academic Player of the Year, joined McNair. To be eligible for nomination, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.30, played in 50 percent of the team's contests, and be in their second athletic season at the nominating institution.

After a stellar rookie campaign, Cameron freshman Maighan Hedge was named the LSC Freshman of the Year and was also All-LSC honorable mention. The Melbourne, Australia native led CU with 15.0 points and 3.0 assists per game and posted a 40/40/80 season by shooting 43 percent from the field, 45 percent from three (which was third best in the nation), and 84 percent from the foul line. Hedge finished the 2018-19 season with 23 games in double-figures, including nine 20+ point games.

Junior Ava Battese was also named All-LSC honorable mention after her stellar year for CU. The Elgin HS graduate averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds while leading the LSC with 78 made threes at a 2.8 per game clip. She hit on 39.6 percent of her three point shots and made three or more triples in a game 12 times. Battese also tied the Cameron single game record for three pointers in a game with eight against Tarleton State on Jan. 3, and is the CU career leader in triples made with 221 in just three seasons.

Additionally, West Texas A&M claimed a pair of individual awards in Player of the Year Lexy Hightower and Coach of the Year Kristin Mattio. Angelo State's Marquita Daniels was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Eastern New Mexico's Treyanna Clay was tabbed the LSC's top newcomer.
