Webb leads CU to 5-0 win over Falcons

LAWTON, Okla. – Freshman Breley Webb put together a strong outing in the circle and also had a two-run homer in the Aggie softball team's 5-0 win over UT Permian Basin on Thursday.

Webb earned her eight win and second shutout of the season, going all seven innings and giving up just three hits and a walk. She also struck out eight Falcon hitters, bringing her season total to 68.

In the second, Cameron's bats put one run on the scoreboard, via a hit and a UTPB error. Callie Busby led off the inning with a single to left, but was thrown out at second a fielder's choice by Abbey Warren. Warren then stole second and came around to score two batters later when Kylie French grounded a ball to the opposing shortstop that went right between her legs into the outfield.

The Aggies added two more in the third, coming via Webb's seventh homer of the year. Brenna Busby, who singled earlier in the inning and then stole second, came in to score on the big fly.

It was not until the sixth inning when CU would add their fourth and fifth runs of the game. CU's top hitter, Khmari Edwards, singled to open the frame and then stole her 23rd bag of the year. After a pair of outs were recorded, Edwards came in to score on an Abbey Warren single up the middle. Raley Long walked to put two on for French, who drove in Warren on a double to the left center.

Warren led the Black and Gold at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs scored and one driven in. Webb was 1-3 with two RBI on her home run, while CU's other four hits came from the Busby sisters, Edwards, and French.

Cameron improves to 30-12 on the season and 17-8 in Lone Star Conference play with the win, while UTPB drops to 10-34 overall and 3-22 in league games.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Friday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CU's three senior student-athletes will be recognized prior to the start of game one.
