LAWTON, Okla. –
Hayden Jaco capped off a Cameron baseball doubleheader sweep with a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Eastern New Mexico on Friday night; CU won game one of the day 12-4.
After winning 10-0 in the series opener on Thursday, the Aggies carried that offensive momentum into game one on Friday. CU opened the game by scoring five runs in the opening frame, two of a double by
Izrael Trevino and three more on a double by
Nate Pecota.
In the next inning,
Jaylan Prince singled to lead off the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and then came home on a Trevino single.
Cameron then struck for three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 12-0 lead. In the fourth,
Pierce Khan doubles in a run, and
Dillon Turney drove him in on a groundout to first.
Myles Miller hit a solo homer to right for the third run of the frame.
Trevino brought in another run in the fifth, followed by a bases loaded walk by Jaco and an RBI fielder's choice by
Colton Adams.
Eastern New Mexico scored their first runs of the series in the top of the seventh, bringing in four runs on four hits, but it was little too late.
Gaige Vines earned his fourth win of the season by going six innings and giving up just four hits, walking two, and striking out three;
Cole Pretorius and
Michael Womack pitched the final inning.
Prince was 3-3 with four runs scored, while Trevino went 3-5 with four RBI and Pecota drove in three.
The nightcap belonged to CU's regular backstop, Jaco. The senior went all seven innings, with his only blemishes being two hit-batters and an error in the third inning. Jaco also struck out eight batters in CU's first no-hitter since 2013, which was thrown by Aaron Kleekamp against Oklahoma Panhandle.
After a scoreless first two innings, Jaco's run support arrived. The Aggie offense put nine runs on the board in the bottom of the third frame. The big plays came on a two-RBI single by Pecota and a bases clearing double by Turney.
Two innings later, the Black and Gold added two more to the board, with Miller driving in a run on a hit-by-pitch and Jaco bringing Turney home on a sacrifice fly.
Pierce Kahn recorded two hits and scored three runs in game two, while Trevino and Pecota also had two hits. Turney drove in three runs on one swing of the bat, and Jaco helped himself out with two RBI of his own; Pecota also drove in two runs.
Cameron improves to 18-22 on the season and 9-6 in Lone Star Conference play; the two wins also clinched the series win over the Greyhounds.
Saturday, the Aggies will look to complete the four-game sweep of ENMU with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
