TUCSON, Ariz. – The Cameron women's golf team began their second tournament of the week on Monday, carding a 318 during the first round of play at the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational.
Round 1 Results
The Aggies are currently tied for ninth as a team after 18 holes of play. Their 318 round one score has them 23 strokes back of the current leader, Cal State San Marcos.
Iona Roska led CU with their only sub-80 scored of the day, a 78. She recorded 13 pars and is currently tied for 25th individually.
Kyndall Morgan was just a stroke back of her teammate with a 79, while
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir carded an 80 during the first round. Morgan shot two under on the par-5 holes, while Ragnarsdottir had a team best two birdies on Monday.
Allison Duffin's 81 and
Kennedy Wheeler's 87 rounded out the CU scores for day one.
CSSMU leads the field by five strokes, with Grand Valley State occupying second place with a 305, while Lynn University is in third and WT and Oklahoma Chrsitian are tied for fourth.
Cameron, who is tied with Colorado Christian, is just one stroke back of the eighth place team Colorado-Colorado Springs, two back of St. Mary's, and four back of Colorado Mesa. They are also ahead of fellow Lone Star Conference teams MSU Texas, Angelo State, and Western New Mexico.
LU's Helen Kreuzer, recorded the only sub-70 score of the first round and currently leads the field with a 69.
The Aggies will look to make up some ground in the final round of the invite on Tuesday.
