CANYON, Texas – The Cameron baseball team's strong postseason run ended with an 11-1 loss to No. 14 West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship presented by Under Armour final on Sunday.
CU tried to continue their improbable run in the LSC Tournament after beating the five seed UT Permian Basin 9-0 and the one seed Angelo State 12-3 on Thursday and Friday. That left a matchup with the two seed Buffs to vie for the championship on Sunday.
The Buffs opened the LSC Championship final with a leadoff homer by Keone Givens. Cameron answered right back in the top of the second with a solo homer off the bat of
Hayden Jaco, tying the game at one run a piece.
Cameron would struggle to bring home runs the rest of the way, totaling 10 hits, but leaving 11 runners on base. They left two runners on base in the second, third, sixth, and eighth innings, and left three on in the seventh inning.
West Texas A&M kept their offense rolling, scoring another run in the second, two more in the third and then put a seven spot up in the sixth inning to take an 11-1 advantage to win the conference title.
Jaco,
Jaylan Prince, and
Dillon Turney all had a pair of hits for the Black and Gold in the loss. The CU arm's struggled as well, combining for six walks and just one strikeout.
The Aggies had five players named to the LSC All-Tournament team.
Trey Bigford,
Pierce Khan, Jaco,
Myles Miller, and
Gaige Vines were all recognized for their strong play this weekend.Â
Cameron ends the season with a 23-29 record, while the Buffs improve to 41-10 and will move on to the South Central Regional.
