LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men's basketball team fell to No. 7 St. Edward's 88-76 on Saturday, despite

Â
On Saturday afternoon, the Aggie men welcomed in one of the best teams in NCAA Division II to the Aggie Gym. SEU entered the day with a 13-1 record overall, 7-1 inside the Lone Star Conference, and is ranked number seven nationally by both the NABC and D2SIDA rankings. The Aggies, who turn in a 3-10 record and a 2-5 league mark, looked to earn an upset in this one.
Â
The Hilltoppers are led by Ashton Spears. The 6-2 guard came into the contest averaging a team-high, 18 points per game to go along with a .450 three-point percentage
                     Â
In the first half, Cameron hit the three-point shot at a 40-percent clip in the first twenty minutes and was able to capitalize at the line, going 6-for-6. Despite the Hilltoppers' size down low, CU was able to keep the rebounding category within two boards before the break. They held SEU to 14 percent shooting from deep with great perimeter defense, which head coach
Andrew Brown said was a "big emphasis" heading into the season. Coming into tonight, SEU was shooting the long ball at a 39.7-percent clip, the best mark in the Lone Star Conference.
          Â
Junior
Webster Simeus provided a spark off the bench with four points, and he was not the only bench player to chip in for CU, as sophomore guard
Andrew Nguyen poured in ten points which included two three-pointers with just one missed shot.
          Â
Lawton native
Kinyon Parker helped the Aggies score off the bench scoring a career-high 17 points, making five trey balls in the process. The Eisenhower HS graduate tied for the team-high in scoring with Nguyen, who also finished the contest with a career-high 17 points. The Houston, Texas native was 3-4 from deep and 6-6 from the charity stripe. He also added five rebounds, a steal, and an assist.
          Â
The Aggie non-starters produced 55 of the team's 76 points, which is the most scoring CU has seen off the bench this season.
Kendall Scott was the lone starter to reach double-digit points, matching his season average with 10 points.Â
          Â
Spears led St. Edward's with a game-high 18 points and finished with five rebounds. He was one of six Hilltoppers in double-figures as August Haas (17 points, 10 assists) and Dorian Lopez (16 points, 14 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles.
                     Â
The Black and Gold defense was able to generate 13 turnovers, scoring 28 points off them. They held the Hilltoppers to just 27 percent from deep, which was SEU's second-lowest mark from distance this season.
Â
Cameron will look to snap their current two-game losing skid when they travel to Midwestern State for the first half of the Red River Showdown on Wednesday, Jan. 15, the first of two games against MSU in the next seven days.
