CU back home against St. Mary's and No. 7 St. Edward's

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron men's basketball team returns to the Aggie Gym to face St. Mary's for their "White Out" game on Thursday, Jan. 9, and No. 7 St. Edward's on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Starting 5: 
1. Cameron snapped a four-game losing skid last Saturday with their 71-52 win over UT Tyler, behind a 20-point outing from Sophomore Brock Schriener, his second of the season; their 19-point victory was the highest by CU this season. 
2. The Aggies have three players averaging around 10 points per game, led by Kendall Scott (10.8), who is also ranked third in the Lone Star Conference in rebounding with 8.1 boards per outing. 
3. St. Mary's is shooting an efficient 45.1 percent from the field as a team while scoring 75.7 points per game, but on defense, the Rattlers give up 77.9 points per game and allow opponents to shoot 46.1 percent from the field. 
4. The Hilltoppers from St. Edward's are currently ranked No. 7 in both of the NABC and D2SIDA top-25 rankings after starting the year with a 12-1 record and a 6-1 Lone Star Conference mark. 
5. SEU is one of the most well rounded teams in Division II as they are ranked in the top-10 in the country in assists and scoring margin, while also ranking in the top-10 in steals and turnovers forced; they are led by the LSC's Co-Preseason Player of the Year Ashton Spears, who is averaging 18.6 points and 2.8 steals per game. 

Last time out: 
Cameron ended their winless streak with a 19-point win at UT Tyler last Saturday. CU outscored their opponent 43-23 in the first half by shooting over 58 percent from the floor and going 7-12 from three in the first 20 minutes of action. CU held on for the win thanks to a Schreiner's second 20-point outing of the season. The sophomore was 7-11 from the floor and 4-7 from three-point range. Additionally, Scott added 12 points and six rebounds while freshman Connor Slater scored 10 points, all in the first 10 minutes of action, and grabbed a team-high 10 boards. 

About the Aggies: 
The Black and Gold sits at 3-9 overall, 2-4 in league play, and 1-1 against their division entering their first home games of 2020. CU is averaging 68.8 points on the offensive end, shooting 39.6 percent from the floor and 36 percent from the perimeter. They are also one of the top rebounding teams in the league, grabbing 38.3 boards per outing, while leading the league in offensive rebounds (13.9 per game). Cameron has upped their assist average to 10.1 per outing, and are turning over the rock at a 15.4 per game clip. Defensively, the squad averages 6.3 steals and 1.5 blocks while giving up an average of 76.2 points to their opposition. 

Scott leads the Aggies with 10.8 points per game and is third in the LSC in rebounding (8.1 rpg). The sophomore forward is shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. Tyler Williams is tied with Scott for the team's scoring title, while the Crete, Ill. native also averages 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Additionally, Schreiner adds 10.4 points and a team-best 2.2 assists each contest, while Jordan Lewis is averaging 9.8 points and shooting 39.3 percent from three during his senior campaign. 

Scouting the Rattlers: 
The Rattlers enter their first LSC outing against the Black and Gold with a 6-7 season record and a 2-5 league mark. They are currently on a three-game losing skid, falling to UAFS and Oklahoma Christian last weekend. Despite scoring over 75 points per game and shooting over 45 percent from the field, StMU is getting outscored by an average of 2.2 points by their opponents, who shot 46 percent from the floor against them. St. Mary's makes right around nine triples and nine free throws per outing while averaging 15.4 assists compared to 15.2 turnovers per contest. 

Senior guard Marques Houston leads the squad with 14.1 points per game while also averaging 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Rattlers. Caleb Jordan is right behind Houston with a scoring average of 13.8 while the sophomore guard has made 87.5 percent of his free throws this season. Additionally, Kobe Magee scores 11.3 points per game to go along with his team leading 5.5 assists and 1.3 steals, while 6-7 freshman Emmanuel Ewuzie leads StMU with 5.9 rebounds per outing.

Scouting the Hilltoppers: 
The seventh ranked Hilltoppers enter the week with 12-1 overall record and a 6-1 league mark. They have won six straight contests, all of those coming by at least 10 points. SEU is averaging 89.9 points per game thanks to four 100-point outings this season, while outscoring opponents by an average of 22.7. They are shooting 51 percent from the floor and make 12 treys per night at a 39.9 percent clip. St. Edward's records over 20 assists per night, while turning the ball over just 12.9 times per game. They also force their opponents into an average of 20.7 turnovers with 11.1 of those coming on steals. 

Spears leads a group of four Hilltoppers that are scoring averages of 11 or more points. The 6-2 senior is shooting over 52 percent from the floor and 45 percent from three while also averaging 2.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.8 steals per game. Australia native Corey Shervill, who was this week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week, is averaging 11.7 points to go along with 4.5 rebounds per game, while big men Jake Krafka and Dorian Lopez average just over 11 points and six rebounds each. Additionally, senior point guard August Haas leads the LSC and is seventh nationally with 7.4 assists per game to go along with a scoring average of 9.1. 

Who has next:
The Aggies will face their Red River rival two times next week for their first ever "Rivalry Week". The first matchup will be in Wichita Falls on Thursday, Jan. 15, with the second coming Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Aggie Gym.
