LAWTON – After a slow start to their 2020-21 season, the Cameron Aggie men's basketball team searches for their first win when they take on No. 25 Dallas Baptist University in a home and home series on Saturday and Monday.
ATTENDANCE AND COVERAGE:
DBU is allowing 50 percent capacity at their home games with all spectators getting in for free, while Cameron administration has decided on a PASS LIST ONLY format for home games in the Aggie Gym starting on Monday. Fans can watch all CU games via the Lone Star Conference Digital Network either online or any smart device that allows OTT apps (Roku, Amazon Fire-TV, etc.). The conference is offering all basketball games via PPV through a $10 24-hour pass.Â
STARTING 5:
1. After losing a pair of hard fought shootouts at UT Permian Basin before the holiday break, Cameron is now winless through the first four games for the second straight season; last year CU lost five games before earning their first victory.Â
2. Junior guard
Brock Schreiner had a career week against the Falcons, averaging 29.5 points while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and going 16-16 from the charity stripe; he currently ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference in scoring.Â

Kendall Scott recorded his second double-double of the year and sixth of his career with 12 points and 11 rebounds against UTPB; Scott is seventh in the nation with his double-doubles and is averaging 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds through four games.Â
4. Blake Flickner, now in his 15th season at DBU, has his Patriots ranked No. 25 in the NABC Coaches Poll after knocking off then No. 17 Angelo State twice to open their season.Â
5. Chandler Jacobs, who was awarded LSC Offensive POTW for his efforts in week one, averaged 24.0 points, shot over 71 percent from the field and from three, and made 10 triples in the two games against the Rams.Â
LAST TIME OUT:
After one of their best offensive outings in recent memory in the first game at UTPB, the Aggies followed that up with an 85-80 loss, marking their third loss by five points or less this season. Schreiner was unstoppable against the Falcons backing up a 31-point outing with a 28-point effort in the final game of the 2020 calendar year. Scott added a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double, while freshman
Jalen Mangum had a career game with 12 points. As a team, CU shot 47.1 percent from the field, but they were just 4-22 from three and 10-20 from the foul line.Â
ABOUT THE AGGIES:
After a tough loss in their season opener against rival Midwestern State, Cameron followed that up with three straight close games. Offensively, CU has not had a problem, scoring 81.8 points per outing and shooting 45.6 percent from the floor. However, they are giving up over 90 points and a 49 percent shooting percentage on the defensive end. Schreiner leads the Black and Gold with his 21.0 points per game to go along with an average of 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals. Scott is scores 14.3 points and grabs 9.0 rebounds per outing, while freshman
Marques Warrior Jr. has averaged 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assist over his first four collegiate games.
Andrew Nguyen's 18-point game against UTPB bumped his scoring average to 8.5, while fellow junior
Darius Green is averaging 8.7 points and shooting 55 percent from the field.Â
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:
DBU has played just the two games against ASU, as their next two games against St. Mary's were postponed due to COVID-19 issues. Still, the Patriots have one of the best offenses in the league, averaging 97.0 points per game while shooting almost 57 percent from the floor. They also averaged 17 three-point field goals made against the Rams, hitting the long-ball at a 46 percent clip. Jacobs' 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game leads DBU, while freshman Ricky Lujan is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals to start his collegiate career.
AGAINST DBU:
The Aggies and Patriots have a short history when it comes to amount of meetings, but the all-time series goes back over 50 years. Recently, DBU has had a slight advantage over Cameron, winning six of the last 10 matchups. Last season, DBU was on fire against the Aggies, scoring 120 points with 21 three pointers while shooting over 64 percent from the floor. The offensive onslaught was led by Jacobs, who had 32 points with five made triples. Green led the Black and Gold with 20 points on 7-12 shooting
WHO HAS NEXT:
After opening the new year against DBU, the Aggies continue their run on divisional foes as they face off against Oklahoma Christian in a home and home series. The first game will be played on Thursday, Jan. 7 in Oklahoma City and the second will be in Lawton on Saturday, Jan. 9.
