Cameron gets back on track with scrappy win over TAMIU

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron Aggie baseball team gets back on track with a 6-3 win over Texas A&M-International to start the four-game series.

Cameron entered today's contest riding a four-game losing streak and searching for their second win of the year. Aggie skipper Kyle Williams hit all the right notes on Friday managing his pitching staff. He started by turning to Lawton native Micheal Womack, who started game one of the four-game set.

Womack gave up a solo shot to red-hot Dustdevil slugger Luis Flores in the first inning but was able to recover.

The Aggie hurler cruised his way to the seventh inning before he ran into a jam. In the seventh frame, Williams turned to Tyler Cornett out of the CU bullpen. Womack finished with 6.2 innings tossed, seven strikeouts, and allowed just three runs.

Cornett came out of the Aggie pen to get out of the seventh and pitch a clean eighth, serving as the setup man for Jayce Clem, who slammed the door shut on the Dustdevils in the ninth. Clem dealt in the final frame, on his way to his first save of the year, seeing him strikeout two Dustdevils.

At the dish, the Aggies were able to scrap and claw their way to six runs, on just three hits. Erik Ohman started the Aggie scoring with a sac-fly to plate Nate Pecota. CU was able to get another run off a Texas A&M-International passed ball.

In the seventh inning, the Aggies manufactured runs from a ground out, and a balk, before Israel Trevino knocked an RBI double that scored Michael Fhlor. Trevino also came around to score on the play via a Dustdevil throwing error.

Clem did not just earn the save tonight, but he was able to collect a hit and score a run offensively, before being called to the bullpen.

The Aggies will continue the four-game set with Texas A&M-International with a doubleheader on Sat. Feb. 22. with first pitch of the first doubleheader game set for 1 p.m. at McCord Field.
