LAWTON, Okla. – After multiple schedule changes, the Aggie baseball team finally played their first games of the season at McCord Field, but were unable to come away with their first win of the year.
Â
The Cameron Aggies and Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas finally got their season underway after winter weather earlier in the week wiped out the Friday and Saturday contests. That created a nine-inning doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at McCord field.
Â
The Aggies entered Sunday looking for the first win under new head coach
Kyle Williams. Meanwhile, the Javelinas entered this series riding high after a perfect opening weekend that saw them go 3-0.
          Â
In game one, the Javelinas got the scoring started early in the first inning when Giancarlo Servin clubbed a three-run shot over the left-field wall. From there, Kingsville never looked back. Their high-powered offense added another run in the second before they broke out in the third. In that frame, Kingsville extended their lead to 11-0 over the Black and Gold.
Â
The flood gates really opened in the fourth. After the Aggies got a run back in the third, Kingsville struck for eight runs in the frame, including a no-doubt homer from Cameron Melcher. The Javelinas big inning would lead them to a 20-1 run-rule victory in game one.
Â
Sophomore
Drew Henderson got his first start of the year in game two against TAMUK. The second-year hurler got into trouble early, giving up two runs in the first and then two more in the second inning.
Â
After scoring a run in the bottom of the first via an RBI ground out from
Beau Williams, the CU offense came alive for three runs in the fourth frame, first on a wild sequence that saw Dillion Turney score on a dropped third strike.
Jordan Harrison-Dudley came up and clubbed a two-RBI single to plate
Cooper Edwards and
Ryan Carter. That tied the contest up for
Michael Womack, who had entered in relief of Henderson.
Â
Womack was dealing early on for the Aggies, cruising through three innings of scoreless ball and punching out three batters. With two outs in the eight, the Lawton, Okla. native ran into his first roadblock of the contest, giving up an RBI-single to allow the Javelinas to take a 6-4 lead.
Â
From there, TAMUK never looked back eventually winning the second game of the twin-bill 8-4. Â
Â
The two squads will wrap up the three-game series on Monday, Feb. 10, with first pitch moved up from its previous scheduled start time of 1 p.m. to 11 a.m. at McCord Field.
