WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Cameron tennis closed out their weekend with a pair of matches against ranked Southwest Baptist opponents, with the men winning 6-1 and the women falling 4-2.
 
The Cameron men have been on a role and stayed perfect on the weekend with a 6-1 win over the 13th ranked Bearcats. The Black and Gold started off strong with a trio of 6-3 wins during doubles play.
 
In singles play, CU continued their success with wins at all but the six spot. The big win came at one, where the No. 28 ranked Bruno Vietri from Cameron defeated the No. 19 ranked Adham Gaber 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Both Oscar del Granado at two and Mayon Dias at five won their matches in two sets, while Pierre Marion at three and Julen Gutierrez at four needed three sets to win theirs.
 
The Aggie women faced another tough opponent in No. 19 Southwest Baptist and battled to the end in a 4-2 loss. Cameron was on the wrong side of a 3-0 doubles decision that saw SBU take a 1-0 lead in the match. Alex Lopez and Alisa Savina fell 6-2 at one against the fifth ranked duo of Jill van Dungen and Catarina Zheng.
 
Cameron got two big wins from the one and two spot as Vasilisa Polunova beat the 30th ranked singles play in Division II van Dungen 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, and Lopez defeated her opponent in the second spot 7-5, 7-5. Two of the remaining three points for SBU came in two set wins, while Pilar Jaurena battled in a three-set, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 loss.
 
The Aggie men are now 6-3 on the year, while the women are now 1-6 for the spring. Both teams will open Lone Star Conference play on Thursday, March 12, against league newcomer UAFS at 2 p.m. at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex on the Cameron University campus.
