CU men visit non-conference foe Rogers State

LAWTON – The Cameron men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday evening when they visit non-conference foe Rogers State.

The Aggies and Hillcats were originally scheduled to meet back during Thanksgiving week, but due to health and safety protocols, the meeting was rescheduled to after the mandatory Division II Holiday break. Cameron looks to come back from the break and carry momentum into Lone Star Conference play, which begins this weekend.

With a handful of their games postponed this season, the Aggies have played just six times this fall and are 2-4 after losing to top ranked Lubbock Christian 87-60 prior to the break. They are averaging just under 70 points per game while giving up an average of 78.7 points to their opposition. CU's offense is shooting 39 percent from the floor, while making 7.3 three-pointers per game at a 40.4 percent clip. They also make 16.8 free throws per contest at a 75.4 percent average. They also trail in the average rebounding and turnover battles but on defense block an average of four shots per outing.

Colt Savage and Brock Schreiner have led the way offensively this fall, both averaging over 12 points per contest for the Aggies. Savage is averaging 15.7 to go along with 4.2 rebounds per game and a 56.7 percentage from three-point range. Schreiner is averaging 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals for CU and makes 95 percent of his shots from the foul line. Additionally, freshman Joshua Fanuiel is averaging 8.8 points and 5.4 rebounds and Connor Slater is averaging 8.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks while shooting almost 54 percent from the floor.

Rogers State has played almost twice as many games as the Aggies, going 6-5 during the first few months of the season. However, they have lost three straight and just one of their wins have come in the month of December. Like CU, the Hillcats are averaging right under 70 points, shooting 45 percent from the field and 32 percent from three. They have given up an average of 65.3 points to their opposition, who averages a .420 clip from the floor and a .324 clip from three.

The Hillcats also have just two players scoring over 10 points per game and two more averaging over eight. Devin Pullum leads the way, averaging 15.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals with Joey Saracco adds 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for RSU.

Following the meeting with RSU, Cameron opens Lone Star Conference play as they visit Oklahoma Christian on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) at 7:30 p.m. and then UAFS on Jan. 2 at 4 p.m. The Aggies' first game of 2022 in the Aggie Gym is set for Jan. 6 against UT Tyler.
