CU sets multiple program-bests on final day of LSC Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Cameron track and field teams surpassed multiple program bests as they wrapped up the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

Sunday's action for the Aggies started with the women's and men's mile event. Keyanna Patterson recorded a 5:53.78 time to finish in 12th in the women's race, while Saulo Yoel ran a personal best time of 4:24.90 to finish in sixth place and earn CU three points in the team standings; Isehaq Mawi and Clement Carre finished in 11th and 12th respectively.

Freshman Hailey Sutton already made history this spring by being the CU women's first pole vaulter in program history and on Sunday she raised that bar. The Hooks, Texas native cleared the 2.79, 2.94, and 3.09 heights, setting a personal best and finishing in sixth place in the event, earning the Aggie women three points in the team rankings.

Loic Rossignaud, who recorded a sixth place finish in the 5000m event on Saturday, repeated that effort in the 3000m race, finishing with a time of 8:51.93 to give CU three more points. Eduardo Gutierrez finished in 10th in the event with a time of 9:03.77, while Jason Cousineau and Nino Heluin came in 13th and 14th respectively.

As always, the championship meet wrapped up with the 4x400 events. CU's women's team of Shianne Taylor, Serah Timbwol, Prisca Kouao, and Sutton placed seventh with a time of 4:11.34, while the men's team of Madison Edwards, William Hodges, Justin Hill, and Yoel set a program record with a time of 3:27.99, good for a sixth place finish.

Cameron's men collected 17 points over the two-day event, finishing in ninth place in the team standings, while the women totaled six points and finished in 10th in their respective team rankings. West Texas A&M claimed both team LSC Championships, with the men grabbing 198 points and the women running away with the title with 234.5 points.

With the indoor season now in the rear-view, both Aggie track and field teams set their sights on the outdoor slate, which is scheduled to begin at the UT Tyler Ice Breaker Classic on March 13.
