LAWTON – The Cameron University tennis teams battled a pair of tough junior college teams on Friday as the CU women won both matches, while the Aggie men split their two contests.
The Aggie women and men played their first matches of 2021 in front of their home fans at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex as they hosted Collin County College and Tyler Junior College.
Both teams swept their opponents from Collin with 7-0 wins in the first two matches of the day. While the two matches against TJC were more competitive.
Cameron's women fell behind 1-0 after losing all three doubles matches to the Apache's. The Aggies responded by securing four wins in singles, coming from the four through six matches.
Lea Manga,
Alex Lopez,
Julianne Garcia, and
Melany Opolz all won three set battles against TJC.
In the men's match against the Apache's, it was the Aggies who took the doubles point with
Oscar del Granado and
Bruno Vietri winning 6-4 on court one and
Maycon Dias and
Alvaro Chavez winning 6-2 on court two. CU was not as successful in singles, as the top JUCO squad swept the individual matches with just the six match featuring
Carlos Vidal going three sets.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, March 2, when they host Cowley County at 2 p.m. for a pair of matches that were originally scheduled for last week but were postponed due to weather. Â Â
