LAWTON – The Cameron University tennis teams split a pair of matches against Cowley County on Tuesday with the CU women winning 5-2 and the Aggie men falling 4-3.
On the women's side, the Aggies entered Tuesday's match coming off a pair of wins against Collin College and Tyler JUCO last Friday. CU started off on the high-side against the Tigers, winning the doubles' point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
Alisa Savina and
Lea Manga won their match 7-5 on court one, while
Karolina Glowinska and
Alex Lopez won 6-3 on court two.
Manga, Lopez, and
Julianne Garcia all won their singles matches in two sets, while Glowinska needed a third to earn her win on the No. 1 court, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
The Cameron men are now 1-2 in the last week as they have now lost back-to-back matches. The started Tuesday's contest against Cowley behind the eight-ball, as
Bruno Vietri and
Oscar del Granado were the only duo to win their doubles match, earning a 6-4 victory at No. 1.
In singles, the two teams split the six matches with
Maycon Dias,
Alvaro Chavez, and
Carlos Vidal earning wins at three, four, and six. Dias had the lone three-set win, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9, while Vietri, Granado, and
Joao Duleba all lost their singles battles in three.
Both teams will compete in the Midwestern State Invitational this weekend, March 5-8. The men will face Southwest Baptist on Friday in Wichita Falls, Texas. The next day, both squads take on Southern Arkansas before returning to their home court to face Oklahoma Baptist. The four-match stretch concludes on Monday at home against MSU Denver.
