LAWTON – The Cameron tennis program had a successful Saturday, as the CU women went 2-0 with wins over Southern Arkansas and Oklahoma Baptist, while the Aggie men split their matches with the Mulerides and Bison.
Cameron's women entered the day riding a three-match winning streak. They opened their weekend with a 4-3 win over SAU to extend that streak to four. After not earning the doubles point after a pair of losses at No. 2 and No. 3, the Aggies won four out of the six singles' battles to earn the win.
Alex Lopez at three and
Julianne Garcia at four won their matches in two sets, while
Lea Manga at two and
Pilar Jaurena in a match clinching win at No. 6 needed three sets to earn the victory.
The Aggies moved to 5-0 on the season with a near dominant win over OBU in their afternoon match. CU used a 6-1 win from Lopez and Jaurena at two and a 6-0 win from Manga and
Lia Woods at three to earn the doubles point. They then won all but the two match in singles, with
Karolina Glowinska, Lopez, Garcia,
Melany Opolz, and Jaurena all winning their matches in two sets.
On the men's side, CU had to open the day with No. 25 Southern Arkansas, just a day after falling to Southwest Baptist 4-3. The Aggies dropped all three matches in doubles play, and then only earned wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.
Bruno Vietri won hist match on the top court, 6-0, 6-0, while
Joao Duleba earned a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five. The Muleriders went on to win the match 4-2.
Cameron bounced back in the afternoon match against the Bison, winning 7-0. Vietri and
Oscar del Granado claimed a 6-0 win on court one, while
Maycon Dias and Duleba won 6-1 at No. 2. CU earned two-set wins in all six of the singles matches to move to 2-4 on the year.
After a day off on Sunday, both Aggie squads will be back in action on Monday as they host MSU Denver at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
