LAWTON – The Cameron tennis programs added wrapped up a busy with weekend with a pair of wins against MSU Denver on Monday at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex on the Cameron University campus.
The CU women opened their weekend with a pair of wins against Southern Arkansas and Oklahoma Baptist, and after beating MSU Denver on Monday, they are a perfect 6-0 on the young season.
Monday's match opened with Cameron taking control by winning the doubles point, with Karolina Glowinski and
Melany Opolz winning 6-0 on court two and
Alex Lopez and
Pilar Jaurena clinching it with a 7-5 win at three.
The Aggies only two losses of the morning came on courts one and two.
Alex Lopez tied the match at two with a 7-6, 6-4 win at four and then
Julianne Garcia won 6-1, 6-2 at five to give CU a 3-2 advantage.
Lea Manga clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at three to keep the Aggies perfect to start the spring.
Cameron's men were 1-2 in the first three matches against Division II opponents this weekend but moved to .500 with a 4-0 win over the Roadrunners on Monday morning; they are now 3-4 overall this season.
In doubles,
Bruno Vietri and
Oscar del Granado put together a dominant 6-0 win on court one, but then a 6-4 loss on three evened up the matchup.
Maycon Dias and
Joao Duleba decided the point with a 6-4 win at two to give the Aggies an early lead.
Vietri (6-0, 6-2) at one, del Granado (6-4, 6-3) at two, and Dias (6-2, 6-0) all took care of business in their matches to secure the 4-0 win for the Aggies;
Alvaro Chavez was down one set before the match was decided.
Next on the schedule for the CU men is a match against Northwest Missouri State in Tahlequa, Okla. on Thursday, March 11. Both teams will then face Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla. on Saturday, March 13.
