LAWTON – The Cameron tennis program's final home matches were spoiled by St. Mary's as they women fell 6-1 and the No. 22 ranked men lost 4-3 on Saturday.
On a day when the tennis teams honored their senior student-athletes after the matches, the Aggies had a pair of tough results at home against the St. Mary's Rattlers.
Coming off a 7-0 win over Newman Friday, the top-25 ranked men lost a hard fought battle against the up and coming Rattler men. The Aggies opened the match on the high side, getting 6-3 wins from
Maycon Dias and
Joao Duleba at one doubles and
Oscar del Granado and
Carlos Vidal on two.
The Rattlers, led by the 16th ranked singles player Jeremiah Sanchez went on to win four of the six singles matches to earn the 4-3 win. Dias at two and Vidal at four earned the wins in two sets, while the remaining four matches were decided in three sets for StMU.
Cameron's women lost their fifth straight match with the 6-1 loss to St. Mary's. In doubles, CU's only win came on court one as
Alisa Savina and
Karolina Glowinska won 6-2.
In singles, four of the six matches went to three sets. Cameron's point came from the court three match as
Lea Manga won 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. The Rattlers boast two top-40 players in singles in No. 25 Ashley Penshorn and No. 39 Maria Garcia.
The Aggie women's next test will be against No. 12 Angelo State on April 16 and then Texas A&M-Kingsville on April 17. Cameron's men won't be in action until April 24 at UT Permian Basin.
