ODESSA, Texas – The Aggie tennis teams began their final road trip of the regular season with a pair of wins over UT Permian Basin on Friday afternoon.
The Cameron men's tennis team edged out a 4-3 win over the Falcons to earn their 10th win of the season and fourth of Lone Star Conference action, while the CU women snapped a seven match losing skid with a 7-0 win over UTPB on Friday.
In the men's match, Cameron opened doubles with a 6-2 win on court three from
Bruno Vietri and
Carlos Vidal but a loss on one evened things up with the deciding point coming on court two.
Oscar del Granado and
Alvaro Chavez held on for the 7-6 win to earn the point for CU.
The doubles point was the deciding factor as the two teams were even in singles play. All six matches were decided in two sets with del Granado at one,
Joao Duleba on four, and Vidal on five earning wins to give the Aggies the 4-3 match victory.
Cameron's eighth win of the year started with two of the three doubles pairs (
Karolina Glowinska/
Alisa Savina and
Lea Manga/
Lia Woods) winning 6-2 on courts one and three to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Black and Gold came away with two-set wins in all six spots to earn the 7-0 win to move to 8-9 on the season and 2-6 in league play.
Both Aggie squads will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, when they visit Western New Mexico for a pair of matches. The two battles in Silver City, N.M. are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (CT). Â
