Harrison-Dudley and Clem have big days at plate, Aggies lose two at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Cameron scored 16 runs and hit five home runs during Friday's doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian but was unable to come away with a win.

The Aggie baseball team entered their three-game series against their in-state foe having lost their last four series. They faced an OC squad who poured on the runs last weekend against Eastern New Mexico as they moved above .500 on the season.

Game one was a pure slugfest with the two teams combining for 24 runs, 25 hits, and 10 home runs as the Eagles came away with the 14-10 win.
Oklahoma Christian struck for three runs in the first inning against starter Michael Womack, with two coming on a homer by Michael DiFiore.

CU responded with two in the second and then tied the game on a Jayce Clem home run. After OC took back the lead with a solo homer in the fourth, Clem delivered another solo shot in the fifth, his team-leading sixth long-ball of the year, to tie the game again. The Aggies added three more in the frame as Cooper Edwards drove in Ryan Carter and Jordan Harrison-Dudley on his second home run of the season.

With Cameron up 7-4, Oklahoma Christian quickly answered as they scored three runs on DiFiore's second home of game one to tie the game at seven after six innings of play.

That tie did not last long as Harrison-Dudley demolished a ball over the center field fence to give the Aggies an 8-7 advantage on the Black and Gold's fourth long-ball of the contest.

Oklahoma Christian tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Harrison-Dudley came up clutch again by driving in Beau Williams and Erik Ohman on a single to center.

In the bottom of the eight, CU skipper Kyle Williams decided to put Clem on the mound to finish off the final two innings. However, the Eagle bats had other plans as they mashed three homers, including DiFiore who hit his third of the game, in a six-run inning to take a 14-10 advantage, which they would hold on to for the win.

Womack settled in four another quality start, going 5.1 innings and giving up six runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six OC hitters; he did not factor into the decision. Carter Bourg put in 1.2 innings of work on the mound, allowing a pair of runs on two hits before giving way to Clem.

Harrison-Dudley had a monster game, going 4-5 with three runs scored, three, RBI, and two outfield assists. The CU right-fielder finished a triple shy of the cycle with a double, two singles, and the homer. Clem added two hits, the two homers, while Edwards and Nik Sanchez both had a pair of hits, with Edwards driving in three runs on his home run.

Cameron's offense continued to swing the bats to start the second game on Friday, as they scored two runs in the opening frame via a double by Ohman that brought home Carter and Williams. Their lead did not last long, as OC scored one in the first and two more in the second on another homer.

Harrison-Dudley tied the game at three with a double to left center that scored Clem, but OC answered with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 6-3 advantage.

A Sanchez RBI single and a bases loaded walk by Williams in the sixth got the Aggies to within one run, but the Eagles extended their lead back out to two with a run in the eighth.

Clem made things interesting in the ninth by hitting his third homer of the day off new pitcher Blake Empkey. Clem's seventh homer of the season got CU to within one run again, but Empkey was able to strike out the next three batters to earn the save and the doubleheader sweep.

Tyler Cornett started the second game on Friday, giving up six runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks. He also hit four batters and struck out six in his fourth loss of the season. Tyler Garcia gave up a run on three walks and a hit in his 2.1 innings of relief, while Kalen Haynes struck out two for the final two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Clem added two hits in the second game and scored a pair of runs, while Ohman drove in two runs and had a pair of hits as Cameron recorded eights hits and left eight on in the game. Strikeouts also plagued CU as they were punched-out 17 times in the second game and 14 times in game one against OC.

The Aggies now sit at 4-17 on the season and 4-13 in league play. They will try and salvage the final game of the series at OC, who is now 13-9 on the year, on Saturday, as the two teams meet for a single game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
