WEATHERFORD – The Aggies were unable to split their non-conference series against Southwestern Oklahoma State, falling 9-5 on Wednesday afternoon, despite a four-hit game from
Erik Ohman.
Cameron and SWOSU played each other last Tuesday at McCord Field with the Bulldogs coming away with a 2-1 victory on the road. The Aggies looked to return the favor on Wednesday as they took the short trip north to battle at the SWOSU Baseball Field.
The Aggies got going early, as Ohman led off the game with a single and then, after stealing second, scored on a
Jordan Harrison-Dudley RBI single.
SWOSU answered with a single run in the first to tie the game and then added three more in the third on a bases-loaded double from Keyshaun Smith that gave them a 4-1 advantage.
Cameron got one back in the fifth after
Beau Williams drove in Ohman on a double to left field. The Bulldogs' Griffin Larsen answered with a two-RBI homer in the sixth inning that put his team up by four runs.
In the seventh, Cameron got the lead back down to two thanks to big hits by Ohman and Williams. After
Julian Macias led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Ohman drove him in on a single to center. The CU leadoff man then scored all the way from first on a double by Williams, setting the score to 6-4.
A bases-loaded triple by Ryan Dos Santos gave the home team a 9-4 advantage in the bottom of the frame. CU was able to get one of those back on Ohman's fourth hit of the day that brought home
Kalen Haynes, but that was as close as they would get on Wednesday, falling 9-5.
Ohman tied for Cameron's season-high with four hits in five at-bats against SWOSU, scoring three runs and driving in two more. Williams also had a pair of RBI on hist two hits, while Macias collected two hits and scored a run as well. The Black and Gold out-hit their opponent 11-7, stranded 10 runners on base, and struck out 13 times.
Cameron head coach
Kyle Williams deployed six pitchers in the non-Lone Star Conference loss.
Evan Nichols gave up just one run on one hit in his two-inning start, while
Devin Paz, who was given the loss, gave up three runs on a pair of hits in one inning.
Nolan Archuleta and
Joseph Flood pitched perfect innings before Haynes gave up five runs on a pair of hits and four free passes. Macias finished off the game, giving up just wo hits and striking out two during the eighth and ninth innings. CU combined for five strikeouts, six walks, seven hits, and three hit batters as a staff.
The Aggies fall to 5-25 on the season and will get back to league action this weekend when they host No. 12 Angelo State for three games. The series is scheduled to begin Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at McCord Field.
