LAWTON – The 22nd ranked Aggie men's tennis team began their final homestand with a 7-0 win over non-conference foe Newman on Friday.
Cameron's seven match winning streak against Division II opponents was snapped last weekend with a loss to UT Tyler. The Aggie men, who just debuted at No. 22 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, got back on track with a dominant win on Friday afternoon.
The Aggies won two out of the three doubles battles to claim an early 1-0 lead. After
Marek Slojewski and
Maxime Volkaert lost 6-3 on court three, CU bounced back with a 6-4 win from
Oscar del Granado and
Carlos Vidal on two and then claimed the point with a 6-4 from
Maycon Dias and
Joao Duleba on one.
Cameron claimed all six singles matches to earn the 7-0 win, as del Granado, Dias, Duleba, and Vidal all won in straight sets, while Slojewski and Volkaert needed three sets to claim their wins.
Now 9-6 on the year, the Black and Gold play their final scheduled home matches of the spring on Saturday, as both the men and women host Lone Star Conference foe St. Mary's. The women's match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and the men will follow at 2:30 p.m.
