Aggie men to visit DBU, MSU, and StMU

LAWTON – The scrappy Cameron men hit the road for three games as they still hunt for their first Lone Star Conference win of the season.

The Aggies returned to action for the first time in almost a month last week, playing two tough games against UT Permian Basin and Angelo State. Now they are back on the road for three games in five days, playing DBU on Thursday afternoon, rival Midwestern State on Saturday, and then St. Mary's on Monday.

STARTING 5
1. Despite two losses, the Aggies took both UT Permian Basin and Angelo State to the wire and out-rebounded both teams, grabbing four more boards than the Falcons and the Rams by six rebounds.
2. The Aggies had two double-double performances this week with Colt Savage recording 15 points and 10 rebounds and Connor Slater adding 13 points and 11 boards against UTPB, while Marques Warrior Jr. almost had another with 12 points and eight assists against ASU.
3. The Patriots are now 12-6 and have won six straight after beating UT Tyler by 15 points on Tuesday, led by Cameron Kahn's 19 points and Julian Miranda's 17.
4. Since their win over the Aggies in November, Midwestern State has gone 3-8 with a 2-4 record in conference games; forward Jermane Carter leads the Mustangs with 15.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field.
5. Despite a 6-7 overall record, St. Mary's is towards the top of the Lone Star Conference with a 3-1 league record, beating St. Edward's UT Permian Basin and Midwestern State.

ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron has had a rough couple of weeks but with two close games against the Falcons and Rams, it seems they have started to turn the page under the new direction of head coach Jeff Mahoney. The Aggies are best when they are limiting three-point shots, holding teams to 30.5 percent from three, and getting to the foul line, averaging 16.1 foul shots made per outing. They excel at controlling the ball, turning it over just 13.7 times per game, but have not been able to return the favor, forcing just over 10 giveaways per contest. Savage has been a great addition for CU, averaging 14.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while Brock Schreiner averages 12.2 points, and Slater adds 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing, which is third best in the LSC. Warrior has been a solid point guard for the Aggies, averaging 7.9 points and 4.2 assists per game, while first-year player Joshua Fanuiel adds 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
The now 12-6 Patriots are averaging just over 74 points and giving up just under 70. They shoot 46.5 percent from the field and knock down 8.7 three-pointers per contest at a 36 percent clip. DBU also turns teams over 17.2 times per game with an average of 8.7 steals. Four players are averaging over 10 points per game this season. Kahn leads the team, scoring 12.8 points and grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the floor. Ricky Lujan, Carson Hughes, and Austin Garner are all scoring threats while Jalen White also averages a team-high 5.6 rebounds and Miranda averages a team-best four assists and 1.8 steals.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Justin Leslie's Mustangs are 6-12 on the year, averaging just three points less than they are scoring (67.6). The shot less than 41 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three, while giving up 43 percent from the field and 33 percent from three on defense. MSU averages 3.7 more rebounds than their opponents and turns the ball over just 13.2 times per outing. Behind Carter, just Terrell Wilson averages more than 10 points per game. The veteran guard averages 12.8 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals, while Pierre Sanders averages 9.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for the Mustangs.

NOVEMBER 30TH AGAINST MSU
When the Mustangs and Aggies met back in November, Cameron held a two-point lead (39-37) at the half but lost the second half to fall 71-66 on their home floor. Neither team shot over 40 percent from the floor, but CU turned the ball over five more times, resulting in five more points off turnovers. Schreiner poured in 28 points for CU and had four steals while Savage added 17 points and Slater had 11 rebounds and four blocks. Carter and Jordan Teal each had 19 points for the Mustangs and Wilson added 13 points but was 0-6 from three.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
Following a 2-2 start, St. Mary's lost four straight games, but have since gone 4-1 with a 3-1 conference record. They average over 77 points per game and are shooting over 45 percent from the floor and making 8.7 triples per contest. The Rattlers are also out-rebounding opponents and have a plus turnover margin. Five players are averaging over 10 points per outing. Kobe Magee leads the way, recording 11.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per outing, while Caleb Jordan averages 11.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. Tyler Caron leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 to go along with a 10.1 scoring average.
