Cameron Falls in Five to ASU

LAWTON, Okla. – Anjolie Navarrete records the first triple-double in Cameron volleyball's recent history and the first during Head Coach Brandon Stephenson's tenure. The Aggies fall to Angelo State in five sets in the Aggie Gym Saturday afternoon, 20-25, 25-17, 25-28, 21-25, and 5-15.

Anjolie Navarrete dished out 17 assists, had 11 kills, and 12 digs. Arianna Navarrete joined her with a double-double, with 12 kills and 14 digs.

Arianna Navarrete had a team-high 12 kills, Anjolie Navarrete recorded 11, Caitlyn Henderson added 10, Jacee Stelter collected five, Natalia Araujo and Jessica Lipkit turned in three, and Alice Tuci had one.

Anjolie Navarrete served up a team-high 14 assists, Tuci had 16 assists, and Meagan Jimenez added six.

Jimenez collected a team-high 18 digs, Arianna Navarrete added 14, Tuci had 13, Anjolie Navarrete scooped 12, Araujo added nine, and Henderson had three.

Anjolie Navarrete scored five aces, Tuci landed four, Lipkit recorded two, and Araujo, Jimenez, and Arianna Navarrete added one.

Araujo and Lipkit swatted a game-high five attacks, Henderson added three blocks, and Stelter had one.

Set one opened with a back-and-forth battle, with the Aggies and Rambelles trading points before landing tied at 7-7. Angelo State would use an 0-8 run to take a 7-14 lead. CU would respond with a 5-1 rally to cut the score to 12-15. The Black-and-Gold could not overcome the hole they were in, dropping the set 20-25.

The Aggies came out in set two with a 5-2 lead. ASU would climb back and take an 11-12 lead. Cameron would fall behind 14-16 but go on an 11-1 rally with Tuci serving, scoring three aces to go on and win the second set 25-17.

Angelo State would build a 1-4 lead to start the third set; the Aggies used a 3-0 run to tie the set at 4-4. CU would tie and take the lead during an 11-2 rally that would give them an 18-11 lead. Cameron used that advantage to close the set with a 25-18 win.

ASU started the fourth set ahead 0-5. The Aggies would cut the deficit to 5-6; The Belles would regain their five-point advantage at 7-12. CU would chip away, bringing the set knotted at 17-17, with the teams trading scores and remaining tied at 20-20. Angelo State would close out the set with a run of 1-5 to force a fifth set after a 21-25 score.

Set five would start tied at 4-4, but ASU's 1-11 rally closed the match with a 5-15 win.

Cameron travels to Weatherford, Okla., to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 pm.
