Cameron Kicks off Conference Play on the Road

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men and Head Coach Kevin O'Connor will kick off Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday night at UT Tyler. The new Aggies team is geared up to prove themselves after a poor showing last season. 
 
CU has won two out of their last three games entering Wednesday night's contest. The previous two losses were by a combined four points to CSU-Pueblo and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Aggies have played five games to open the 2022-23 campaign, starting the season 2-3. The game in Tyler is scheduled for 7:30 pm, and Saturday's contest at Dallas Baptist is set for 3:00 pm.
 
STARTING 5
1. Cameron lost their last time out 89-86 to Northwestern Oklahoma State, with a season-high in points scored for the Aggies, led by Jaylan Thomas with 16 points, Colt Savage added 15, Ernest Young scored 14, and Jaden Okon had 11 points.
2. The Black-and-Gold have three individuals averaging double-digits led by Reggie Prudhomme tallying 14.6 ppg, Jaylan Thomas recording 13.2 ppg, and DeSean Munson scoring 11.6 ppg.
3. The Aggies lead the LSC and rank 10th in Division II in three-point field goal percentage shooting 43.0 percent from beyond the arc.
4. The Patriots have started the season 3-0 after picking up two wins on the road last week. The trio of Rashun Williams, Milan Szabo, and Terrell lead UT Tyler with double-figure scoring. Williams leads the way with 18.7 ppg, Szabo averages 11.0 ppg, and Terrell Wilson records 10.0 ppg.
5. UT Tyler has appeared in the last two D2SIDA South Central Region rankings in the no. 10, and the Patriots enter conference play ranked eighth in the regional poll after receiving 11 votes. They are one of five teams from the Lone Star Conference to appear in the rankings.
 
ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron now sits at 2-3, falling under .500 with the loss to NWOSU on Saturday. They are averaging just 79.0 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 43.0 percent from three, which ranks first in the LSC and 10th nationally. They also make 14 free throws per game and hit them at a 72.9 percent clip. Defensively, CU is giving up 79.8 points to their opposition while allowing them to shoot 42.1 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from three. Prudhomme (14.6 ppg), Thomas (13.2 ppg), and Munson (11.6 ppg) lead CU.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
UT Tyler has stormed out to a 3-0 start, outscoring their opponents by eight points per game and shooting 46.7 percent from the field. They get it done on the perimeter, converting 8.7 triples per contest at a 34 percent clip. Defensively, UT Tyler holds teams to 39 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent from long range. They are also out-rebound teams by an average of 10.6 rebounds and turn the ball over just 19.7 times per outing. Williams leads a group of three Patriots scoring over 10 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the floor. Milan Szabo is averaging 11.0 ppg and 9.0 rebounds, while Terrell Wilson scores 10.0 ppg and has a team-high eight assists on the year.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST UTT
Cameron has lost the last four meetings with the Patriots, all in Lawton. CU's lone win in the series was on the previous trip to Tyler back in 2019-20, a 71-52 win. Last time out, the Aggies lost 72-53 after a second half dominated by UT Tyler, who built as much as a 21-point lead. Michas Fuller led UTT with 23 points while shooting 57 percent from the floor. Szabo was the leading returner in the matchup with 12 points. CU shot 32 percent from the floor, and the top returning scorer was Colt Savage, who had 10 points and four rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
DBU's riding A three-game win streak while having a hot hand, shooting 49.7 percent during that stretch. Ta'Jay Dunlap is averaging a team-high 13.2 points per game, while Cameron Kahn and Ricky Lujan join him in double-digits. Kahn is scoring 12.1 ppg, and Lujan is averaging 10.7 ppg. Dunlap ranks No. 6 in the nation in steals (17), and his 2.83 steals per game is the 11th-highest average in the country. DBU is 19-5 at home all-time in the LSC. They rank third in the conference in both field goal percentage (.474) and three-point field goal percentage (.380). Defensively, DBU ranks 11th in the LSC in opponent field goal percentage (.439) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.329).
 
LAST TIME AGAINST DBU
Cameron was no match for the red-hot DBU team, falling 89-53; the Aggies were on a seven-game losing streak at the time of the loss. The Patriots knocked down 10 triples in the first half to take a 46-22 lead at the break. For the game, CU shot 32 percent from the field, 14 percent from three, and 62 percent from the foul line. They were also out-rebounded 48-35 and turned the ball over twice more than the Patriots. Savage finished with a team-best 12 points on 4-10 shooting while adding five rebounds.
 
WHO HAS NEXT
The Aggies will return home to close out the fall portion of their schedule with four straight home games in seven days, from Dec. 10 to Dec. 17. Cameron will host St. Mary's on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3:00 pm, St. Edwards on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 pm, Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 pm, and will finish with Midwestern State on Dec. 17 at 3:00 pm.
