Game Recap: Softball |

Early inning struggles lead to a pair of losses for the Aggies

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Cameron softball was unable to halt their current struggles on Saturday, losing to a pair of in-state foes in Southeastern Oklahoma State and No. 14 Rogers State.

After winning their first nine games of the year, the Aggies have now lost five straight, including a 3-1 loss to the Savage Storm to kick off Saturday's action and then a 7-4 loss to the ranked Hillcats in the nightcap.

In their first game of the day against the Savage Storm, Cameron answered a single run by their opponent in the first with one of their own in the bottom of the second. Josie Swafford hit a double that brought home Breley Webb

Unfortunately, the would be the only run support the starter Swafford would get as Southeastern Oklahoma State another run in the third and one in the fourth to give them the 3-1 lead.

Cameron totaled just three hits in the game, with Webb, Swafford, and Kaiden Boren each recording doubles in the loss.

Swafford gave up the three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out three in her second loss of the season.

CU's toughest test of the weekend came in the second game of the day against the 14th ranked Hillcats, who opened the game with four runs in the bottom of the first.

After RSU added two more in the second, Cameron got on the board with a solo homer by Haley Castle in the third and then two more in the fourth when Khmari Edwards scored on a fielder's choice and then Kylie French took home on a double steal.

Still leading 6-3, the Hillcats added another run to their lead in the fifth on a RBI double before CU added a run to their total when Karis Clark drove in French on a groundout. RSU's starter M'Kayla Hillman was able to limit CU's run total to four to hold on for the win.

The Aggies offense recorded 10 hits in game two with Edwards, French, and Swofford each providing a pair of hits. CU stranded five runners on base and struck out four times combined.

Robyn Bales got the start in the circle, but after giving up six runs in the first two innings she was relieved for Webb. Webb gave up just one run on two hits and two walks in the final four innings of the contest.

Cameron, now 9-5 on the season, will wrap up their stretch of games at the Edmond Festival on Sunday when they take on Northeastern State at 10 a.m. and then Southern Nazarene at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be played at SNU.
