CU bats total 15 runs on final day of Edmond Festival

BETHANY – The Aggie softball lineup scored 15 runs on Sunday as the split a pair of games in Bethany, losing to Northeastern State and beating Southern Nazarene in five innings. 
 
After losing their first three games of the weekend schedule, extending their losing streak to five games. It extended to six with a tough loss to the Riverhawks in the first game of the day, but CU was able to snap the skid in game two against the host SNU. 
 
Cameron and Northeastern State battled in a slugfest to kick off the day, totaling 16 runs and 25 hits between the two squads. 
 
The Aggies opened the game leading 4-0, scoring two in the first and then single runs in the second and third innings. Khmari Edwards kicked things off with a solo homer and then Kylie French scored on a double steal in the first. 
 
Karis Clark provided both runs in the next two innings, hitting a solo homer in the second and then driving in Josie Swafford on a double in the third. NSU responded with a six-run fourth to take a 6-4 lead. 
 
Haley Castle answered the Riverhawks big inning with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame and then Edwards was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Webb drove in Maci McMurtrey on a single to put CU back on top 7-6. 
 
The Riverhawks scored three more runs in the fifth and then held CU scoreless in the final three innings to secure the 9-7 win. 
 
Jocelyn Bright struck out six batters in 6.1 innings of work but gave up four earned runs on eight hits and three walks. Josie Swafford retired the final two outs but gave up three runs, all of which were unearned. 
 
Webb continued her hot start to the season at the plate, going 3-4 with a RBI, while Clark was 3-4 with two RBI and Castle and French each went 2-4 in the loss. 
 
The Aggies snapped their losing skid with a run-rule victory over Southern Nazarene in their second game of the day. 
 
Cameron scored two runs in the second, five in the third, and then one more in the fourth to give them their eight runs for the win. 
 
Castle had another homer, driving in two runs in the win, Swafford and Webb both had two hits, giving Webb five for the day, and Edwards scored twice and drove in a run. Cameron had nine hits as a team and stranded five runners on base. 
 
Webb was also dominant in the circle, holding the Crimson Storm to just three hits while striking out five batters and not walking one in the complete-game shutout. 
 
Now 10-6 on the year, the Aggies have a just a doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State on the schedule for the upcoming week. The two teams are slated to squad off starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at McMahon Field.
