LAWTON – The Aggie women's basketball team are guaranteed to host a first round Lone Star Conference Tournament game next week after their 70-66 loss to Texas A&M International on Thursday night.
Cameron, now 15-10 on the year, entered the matchup with the Dustdevils needing two win their final two games to have a chance at getting a first-round bye in the LSC Tournament next week. However, with the loss, they have fallen out of that chance, but will still host a first-round game.
The Aggies, who still lead the LSC with 10.1 three-pointers per game, struggled from long range against the Dustdevils. The shooting woes started in the opening quarter when they were 1-10 from deep and trailed 18-13 through 10 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, while the shots still weren't falling, CU locked in on defense, holding the Dustdevils to 11 points while scoring 20 to lead 33-29 at the half. Second-year player
Kassie Boorer provided big first-half minutes of the bench for head coach and fellow Melbourne, Australia native
Emma Andrews. Boorer scored 11 points and had five rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
International picked it up in the third, going 6-9 from the field and 8-8 from the charity stripe to out-score the Aggies 21-19 and cut the lead to two heading into the final 10 minutes. They then took over the lead a few minutes into the fourth and built up a seven-point lead by the 2:31 mark.

Maighan Hedge got the Aggies back to within two with just under a minute to play. After a defensive stop, CU had a chance at tying the game, but
Stephanie Peterson was unable to get the layup to fall with 11 seconds on the clock. TAMIU's Clara Fernandez hit two free throws in the final seconds to ice the game, 70-66.
Cameron shot just 32 percent from the field in the loss, going 7-32 from three while hitting on 76 percent of their free throw attempts. They were able to turn the Dustdevils over 21 times, scoring 19 points off of the takeaways, but were out-rebounded 46-39.
Hedge finished with a CU-high 17 points and four assists while Peterson scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Boorer finished with 13 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor.
Cameron's seeding in the conference tournament will be decided on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville, who they are currently tied with at 10-5 in league play.
