ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. –
Ashley Davis had a low round of 78 as the Aggies opened the World Golf Invitational with a first round score of 324, battling uncharacteristic weather in the Sunshine State.
Facing 45-degrees and windy and wet conditions, Cameron's women's golf team kicked off their spring on Monday against some of the top teams in Division II at the World Golf Hall of Fame Slammer and Squire course. Their first-round score has them currently in 14thplace through 18 holes.
Davis totaled three birdies during her opening round, but had one double and a handful of bogeys, giving her a 78 on her score card. She is currently tied for 41st individually.
Iona Roska is just two strokes back of her teammate with an 80, adding another birdie to CU's first-round total.
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir also had three birdies and shot an 81 during her first 18 holes in Florida, while
Ellie Fellers shot 85 and
Emma Englefield carded a 92.
Cameron had eight birdies as a team during Monday's round, while adding 37 combined pars between the five players. Roska shot one under on the par-3 holes with Davis shooting one over. Ragnarsdottir was just one over on the par-4's while Davis was one under on the par-5 holes.
No. 7 Nova Southeastern leads the field after 18 holes of play, shooting 34 strokes better than CU with a 290. They are five strokes ahead of Rollins, who is ranked No. 10 in the nation by Golfstat.
The Aggies are just 10 strokes out of a top-10 finish with Flagler College and UNC Pembroke both carding 314 during the first round.
Nova's Hanna Ahlander is currently at the top of the player leaderboard, shooting a two-under 70 while Limestone's Ebba Hellman is right behind her with a 71 and five others shot 70 during Monday's round.
Cameron will look to vie for a top-10 finish on Tuesday when they play the second and final round of the World Golf Invitational, their spring debut tournament.
