Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Peterson and Hedge combine for 47 points in loss to Lions

LAWTON – Aside from 47 combined points between Stephanie Peterson and Maighan Hedge, the Aggie women had a tough time against No. 3/7 Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday night, falling 92-69.

Cameron entered the week on top of the Lone Star Conference standings, but knowing they had three tough home games this week which included a battle with the top-10 ranked Lions. CU could not contain the opposing offense, allowing them to shoot over 57 percent from the field in the win.

In addition to them struggling to keep the Lions off the scoreboard, CU's offense never got going like it usually does. The Aggies shot just 34 percent from the field and 7-28 from three, well below their season average of 35 percent going into the game. They were able to get 16 points from the foul line, but A&M-Commerce made 25 free throws in 39 attempts.

The battle on the boards went to the visiting Lions, 49-29, and while the Aggies were able to force 18 turnovers on 12 steals, they scored just 11 points off those A&M-Commerce turnovers.

Individually, Peterson led the Black and Gold with 24 points, going 11-21 from the field while adding five rebounds and two steals. Hedge reached her season average (22.3 entering Tuesday), scoring 23 points on 6-17 shooting while going 8-8 from the charity stripe.

Whitney Outon with seven points and five rebounds and Katie King with six points were the only other Aggies to score over five points in the loss.

Tuesday's game looked like it was going to be a classic Lone Star Conference battle after the first quarter as CU led 18-16. The Lions changed that outlook when they scored 27 points in the second quarter to lead the Aggies 43-32 at the half. A&M-Commerce had a 14-point four seconds left in the second quarter, but Hedge drilled a shot from near half court to cut the deficit to 11.

Peterson had 16 and Hedge had 10 points at the break while CU was shooting 37.5 percent from the floor were 5-16 from three in the opening 20 minutes.

A&M-Commerce extended their lead to at-most 17 in the third quarter, but the Aggies were able to cut that to 12 (60-48) by the end of the period. The Lions could not miss in the fourth quarter, going 11-16 from the field and scoring 32 points, 10 of which came from the foul line. CU didn't have any Aggie magic on Tuesday night as they never cut the lead to single digits in the fourth, falling 92-69.

Speedy guard Dyani Robinson led the Lions with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Chania Wright added 22 points and DesiRay Kernal added 19.

Now 12-7 overall and 7-2 in league play, the Aggie women will be back on their home floor on Thursday when they host Eastern New Mexico with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
