Sixth ranked Aggies take down another top-25 ranked opponent

LAWTON – The Cameron women's tennis team jumped up to No. 6 nationally when the new ITA rankings were released on Thursday just hours before the Aggies defeated No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney, 5-2 on their home court.

Now ranked the highest they have been in program history in this format, Cameron made the jump with wins over ranked opponents Columbus State (No. 10), Southeastern Oklahoma State (No. 22) and Southwest Baptist (previously No. 21). They are now 5-0 against Division II opponents this season after their win over the Lopers.

In addition to the team rankings, the ITA also released computerized singles rankings on Thursday, which saw Lea Manga ranked No. 48 and Julianne Garcia ranked No. 54.

Thursday's top-20 matchup saw the Aggies go up 1-0 with three wins in doubles play against UNK. Cameron got dominant wins from Anastasia Uspenskaia and Magda Wawrowska at one (6-1) and Manga and Kateryna Rudenko at two (6-2).

With the point already earned, the match at two was played to a tie-break point with CU's Vasilisa Polunova and Karolina Glowinska winning the break 7-4 to complete the doubles sweep.

Glowinska started singles play with a quick win at six, taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory followed by a 7-5, 6-3 win by Wawrowska at five to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead. Polunova secured the match win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the one spot.

Additionally, Uspenskaia added to the CU lead with a 7-5, 6-2 win at three before UNK got on the board with three-set wins at four and two to fend off the sweep.

The sixth ranked Aggies, who are now 7-2 on the season, will make a trip to Missouri to start next week, visiting William Jewell on Sunday, March 13, and Northwest Missouri State on Monday, March 14.
