LIBERTY, Mo. – The sixth ranked Aggie women and 29th ranked Aggie men came away with dominant wins on Sunday against William Jewell, coming away with 7-0 victories to extend their respective winning streaks.
Cameron began their spring break week with a two-day trip to Missouri where they would face off against William Jewell on Sunday and Northwest Missouri State on Monday. Both CU tennis teams had no problem with the Cardinals, sweeping both matches.
The Aggie women, now 8-2 this season, are currently ranked No. 6 in all of Division II and they looked the part against WJC for their sixth straight win. In doubles, CU did not give up a single point to their opponent with all three pairings winning by 6-0 scores.
Cameron continued their dominance into singles play where the most points the Cardinals recorded in a single set was three.
Pilar Jaurena completely swept her opponent at six, winning 6-0, 6-0 and then
Anastasia Uspenskaia at two and
Karolina Glowinska at five had 6-0, 6-1 wins.
Vasilisa Polunova in the one spot and
Kateryna Rudenko at three both took down their opponents by scores of 6-1, 6-1 while
Magda Wawrowska wrapped up the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at four.
In the men's match, CU was not as dominant, but still came away with a 7-0 win to improve to 5-4 on the year.
Thomas Cardona and
Tomas Almeida started out the match with a win at three doubles, 6-0, and then the two teams split the other two battles to 6-3 with
Carlos Vidal and
Kristian Kubik coming out on top at one to secure the first point.
Like the women, no singles match went longer than two sets.
Joao Duleba had the cleanest win at six, taking down his opponent 6-1, 6-0 while Vidal at three and
Alvaro Chavez at five both won 6-1, 6-2. Almeida beat the Cardinals one singles player 6-3, 6-1 with Cardona winning over a ranked opponent 6-1, 6-4 at two and Kubik won 6-4, 6-1 at four.
Cameron will wrap up their trip to "The Show-Me State" on Monday against the NWMSU Bearcats with both matches scheduled to be played at 1 p.m.
