DALLAS, Texas – Cameron's men, ranked No. 33 by the ITA, earned their first Lone Star Conference victory with a 6-1 win over DBU on Friday before falling to Auburn-Montgomery 4-2 on Saturday.
The Aggies entered the weekend on a 5-match winning streak and extended that to six games with their win over the Patriots. However, it was snapped in the close battle with the Warhawks to close out their trip to central Texas. CU is now 7-5 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
Against DBU, the two teams battled in double with
Tomas Almeida and
Thomas Cardona winning 6-2 at three and the Pats getting a 6-4 win at two.
Kristian Kubik and
Carlos Vidal secured the point with a 6-4 win of their own at one.
All but a 3-set battle at six singles went the way of the Aggies as Almeida, Cardona,
Baptiste Mercier, Vidal, and Kubik all won in two frames to give CU the 6-1 win.
UAM started Saturday's match with a 1-0 lead getting 6-2 and 7-6 wins at one and two doubles while Cardona and Almeida added to their season resume with a 6-2 win at three.
Cardona at two (2-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Kubik at five (6-3, 6-3) got the Aggies on the board with two singles points but the Warhawks took the wins at one, three, and four with the latter two coming in 3-set thrillers.
Next week begins the bulk of the conference schedule for the Black and Gold. They host UT Tyler on Friday, March 25, at 10 a.m. to kick off a 7-match streak against league opponents.
