DALLAS, Texas – The sixth ranked Cameron women's tennis team came away with a pair of big wins this weekend, taking down No. 41 DBU on Friday and then No. 44 Auburn-Montgomery on Saturday.
The Aggies, who came in ranked sixth in the ITA top-50 poll for the second straight week, extended their winning streak to nine matches and then are now 11-2 on the season with a 1-0 record in Lone Star Conference play.
Cameron had a clean sweep of the Patriots on Friday for their first league win. They got 6-3, 6-2, and 6-4 wins in doubles to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
All but one singles match went past two sets with
Vasilisa Polunova,
Anastasia Uspenskaia,
Kateryna Rudenko,
Magda Wawrowska, and
Karolina Glowinska all winning in two.
Lea Manga won her tiebreak third set 15-13 to win the battle at two and secure the sweep.
Saturday's match with Auburn-Montgomery was a little closer. Uspenskaia and Wawrowska won their doubles match 6-1 at one and Manga and Rudenko clinched the point with a 6-2 win at three.
In singles, UAM got on the board with a win at four, but CU quickly took back the lead with wins by Polunova and Uspennskaia. The Warhawks also came away with the win in the ranked battle between No. 44 Estefanie Garcia and No. 62 Manga with Garcia taking the match 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Wawrowska finished the match off with a 2-set win at five to give the Aggies the 4-2 win.
Next week begins the bulk of the conference schedule for the Black and Gold. They host UT Tyler on Friday, March 25, at 10 a.m. to kick off a 7-match streak against league opponents.
