Feria deals in game one of split with LCU

LAWTON – The Aggies began Friday's doubleheader with No. 23 Lubbock Christian with a 2-1 win on the arm of starter Marcos Feria before falling in the game two slugfest.

Cameron got a big win on Thursday night to open the home series against the power-hitting Chaps, winning 8-3 thanks to a big start by Tyler Cornett. Feria provided head coach Kyle Williams with another quality start to take a 2-0 lead in the 4-game set before LCU won 20-5 in game two.

Feria's lone blemish in game one of the twin bill came in the third as he gave up back-to-back extra base hits to lead off the frame, resulting in a run. He was able to get the next batter to pop out and then a line-out double play ended the threat.

The Aggies' struggled against LCU starter Ethan Coombes, tallying just two hits in the 7-inning contest, but a rally in the fifth was enough run support on Friday afternoon.

Ryan Allen walked to open the frame and then a double by Nik Sanchez put runners on second and third with no outs. Colby Flood then drove in Allen on a fielder's choice and then Julian Macias hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Sanchez and give CU their 2-1 lead.

In his first win of the spring, Feria struck out five batters and gave up just the one run on five hits and three free passes. He also stranded six Chap runners on base.

Jordan Harrison-Dudley had a double and the other hit was the 2-bagger by Sanchez.

Lubbock Christian's lineup, who entered the weekend with the most homers in the Lone Star Conference (62), had been held in check in the first two games of the series but came alive in the third.

The Chaps scored two runs in the first and second innings, added six in the third, and then put up a 10-run frame in the fifth to give them 20 runs on 21 hits, seven of which were for extra bases with three homers.

Cameron's bats hung around early scoring three runs in the first and two more in the third inning. In the opening frame, Beau Williams had a RBI single and then Ryan Carter drove in a pair to give CU a 3-2 lead after one inning.

The Aggies two runs in the third came on back-to-back solo homers by Macias and Williams. After that, CU was held to just two hits in the final four innings against starter Shandon Herrera.

Macias had a solid game at the plate, going 3-4 with two runs scored and a double and home run while Williams was 2-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. The lineup finished with eight hits total.

With the series now sitting at 2-1 in favor of the Aggies, they are 13-26 overall this season and 13-24 in conference games. They will look to win the series if they can take the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
