Aggies unable to keep up with No. 1 UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas – The Aggies closed out their final road trip of the regular season at No. 1 UT Tyler on Sunday, falling 10-2 in the opener and 2-1 in the second game despite a solid effort in the circle by Josie Swafford

Cameron's final road trip of the spring saw them having to face a pair of top-20 ranked opponents, including the unanimous first place Patriots, who are battling for a Lone Star Conference title this spring.

In game one, the Aggies had just two hits in the first four innings, both from Breley Webb, while the top ranked Patriots scored in all four of the first four innings, including a 4-run frame in the bottom of the fourth.

Trailing 8-0, Cameron rallied in the top of the fifth to extend the game at least one more inning. Maci McMurtrey singled with one out and then back-to-back doubles by Haley Castle and Madyson Marvulli resulted in a pair of runs. Marvulli's two RBI gives her five for the road trip as she had a 3-run homer in the doubleheader at No. 19 Texas A&M-Commerce.

Swafford came in to pitch in relief of starter Breley Webb and stranded a leadoff base runner in the bottom of the fifth. However, an error and a bunt single put two on with one out for the Patriots in the sixth. They then scored on a double-steal and then a sacrifice fly brought home their 10th run, ending the game via the 8-run rule.

Webb allowed eight runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out one batter in her seventh loss of the season. Swafford had two runs score while she was in the circle on two hits, but both were unearned, and the junior had one punch-out.

Cameron ended the opener with five hits, leaving three runners on base while striking out a combined five times. Webb was 2-3 while the 7-9 hitters of McMurtrey, Castle, and Marvulli had the other three hits.

Swafford started the second game and limited the Patriot offense to just two runs on seven hits while recording six strikeouts. Those two runs came on a pair of RBI hits in the fourth.

At the plate, the Aggies had just five hits again against a pair of UTT pitchers. They were all singles and spread across the bats of Khmari Edwards, Karis Clark, Swafford, Kaiden Boren, and McMurtrey.

Cameron went 0-4 on their tough road stretch, moving them to 25-21 overall this season and below .500 (13-15) in conference games. They will have another top-20 opponent next week to wrap up the regular season schedule, hosting No. 15 Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, April 30, with game one starting at 1 p.m.
