Sunday slugfest gets away from Aggies

LAWTON – After the two teams combined for just eight runs in two games on Saturday, Cameron and Oklahoma Christian put up 38 runs in the series finale on Sunday with OC coming away with the win.

Cameron began the 4-game set with an 8-6 win on Friday and then the Eagles took the lead in the series with the two one-run wins on Saturday. Both teams found their offense in the finale, but OC was the beneficiary of a 13-run seventh that gave them the 28-10 win to claim the series.

With Clayton McClenan, who has been solid in his recent starts, on the mound the Aggies got off to a quick start against the reigning Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week Isaiah Alvarenga putting up four runs in the opening frame. The first two came on a monster homer by Jordan Harrison-Dudley, his ninth of the season, and then Ryan Allen hit his fifth home run to score two more runs.

After OC scored in the top of the second, Cameron added two more to their total to make it a 6-1 game. Both runs scored on a throwing error by the ENMU catcher as the throw down on a Tyler Coleman steal went into the outfield, allowing both he and Jayce Clem to score.

The Eagles got their first big inning off McClenan in the fourth as they scored eight runs on seven hits to make it a 9-6 game.

Cameron tied the game in the bottom of the frame as Holden Tate, Tylar Scott, Colby Flood, and Julian Macias led off the frame with four straight singles to plate a pair of runs. After Harrison-Dudley walked, Clem skied a ball to right to bring home Flood from third on the sacrifice for the third run of the frame.

OC then put up a six spot in the fifth and then, after CU got one back on a Tate RBI single in the sixth, scored 13 in the seventh to give them their 28-10 win via the run-rule.

Six Cameron batters had 2-hit games including the bottom four in the order. Harrison-Dudley and Allen both drove in a pair of runs while Williams scored twice for the Aggies. They used eight pitchers that combined for six strikeouts with two each from McClenan and Evan Nichols

Now 11-21 on the season and 11-19 in league play, the Aggies will be on the road next weekend when they visit St. Mary's four another 4-game set, April 8-10.
