YUKON – The Cameron track and field teams had a solid showing with three wins in their second outdoor meet of the spring as they competed in the SCU/Paul Parent Invitational on Saturday.
The second of six scheduled meets on the Aggies' outdoor schedule this season took place at Miller Stadium in Yukon on Saturday hosted by Southwestern Christian University.
Cameron's women's performance was headlined by the 4x400 team of
Roshae Burrell,
Daesha Brathwaite,
Serah Timbwol, and
Genevieve Young as they won the event with a time of 4:07.87.
Additionally, Brathwaite (2:22.57) and Young (2:23.81) finished two and three in the 800m event with
Alejandra Collier and Timbwol also finishing in the top-10.
Belle Vignes paced a trio of CU runners in the 1500, finishing in sixth with a time of 5:06.56.
Alexis Chao and
Hailey Sutton finished four and five in the pole vault with Chao clearing 2.92m and Sutton making the mark of 2.74m.
Cameron's men had a couple of runners claim event wins. The 800m was big for CU on Saturday as
Lamon Miles finished first with a time of 1:58.78,
Nathan Kemp finished second at 1:59.01, and
Clement Carre and
Allen Vasquez placed third and fourth.
Edward Kipruto led a group of six CU runners with a time of 16:15.38 to win the event with
Jason Cousineau coming in second with a time of 16:16.48 and
AJ Espino,
Nino Heluin,
Daniel Parra, and
Brian Easter coming in third through sixth place.
Kipruto (4:07.56) and Cousineau (4:10.62) also paced a group of eight Aggies in the 1500 event with Cousineau coming in second and Kipruto placing fifth with
Allen Vasquez in fifth and Espino in sixth.
Additionally,
Kevin Garcia (23.05) placed ninth in the 200m dash with Miles coming in 11th and then Garcia finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 50.78 and
Madison Edwards came in sixth.
Roman Esparza cleared 3.96m and finished third in the pole vault followed by
Ethan Stephens with a mark of 3.84m. CU's 4x400 team of Edwards, Kemp, Carre, and Garcia came in fifth with a time of 3:25.96.
The next meet on Cameron's scheduled is the East Texas Invitational, which will be hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce on April 9. They then just have two more meets before the Lone Star Conference Championships, May 5-7.
