LAWTON – The Aggie baseball team had McCord Field packed as they celebrated Senior Day during Saturday's doubleheader against Texas A&M International.
Cameron honored 12 seniors in between the two games of the twin bill of their final series of the 2022 season. Unfortunately, for the home crowd neither game went the Black and Gold's way as the Dustdevils won 8-2 and 4-0 to earn the series win after winning Friday's game one as well.
Senior
Kalen Haynes started game one and he was greeted by one run in the first inning and two in the second by International. He was replaced by fellow senior
Michael Womack, who gave up a run in the third and two more in the fourth, giving the road team a 6-0 lead.
The Aggies answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Jayce Clem doubled in
Jordan Harrison-Dudley and then game in to score of a single by senior
Tyler Coleman.
In the sixth, the Dustdevils added two more to their score of
Drew Henderson while CU went scoreless in the final three frames to drop the game 8-2.
Haynes gave up just two hits but walked seven while striking out four in his 2.1 innings of work. Womack punched out a pair in 2.1 innings and Henderson had three K's in his 2.1 innings spent in the circle.
CU's six hits were spread across the top-5 batters (
Julian Macias,
Beau Williams, Harrison-Dudley, Clem, and Coleman) in the order and the 9-hole hitter
Erik Ohman. As a team, the stranded five runners on base and struck out eight times.
After the Senior Day celebration,
Spencer Brown got the ball in game two, making his first start of his career. The Lawton native gave up two runs on just two hits and a walk while recording a pair of strikeouts, the first of his career, as CU's opener.
Tyler Gregg came in and held the Dustdevils scoreless almost the rest of the game, giving up two runs on a single with two outs in the top of the seventh. The senior from Farmington, Ark. also struck out five during his 5.2 innings of work;
Evan Nichols got the final out in the seventh.
Cameron totaled just two hits against the TAMIU starter Jan Cabrera, both of which came off the bat of leadoff hitter
Julian Macias. The Aggie lineup also had one walk (Clem) and struck out six times.
Now at 13-34 overall and 13-32 in Lone Star Conference games, the Aggies will close out the season with the series finale against Texas A&M International, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
