CU women sweep Javelinas for 12th straight win

LAWTON – The sixth ranked Cameron women's tennis team added another win to their resume as they defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-0 on a windy Friday afternoon.

The Aggies have had to battle in the recent matches to keep their undefeated record against Division II opponents alive, but that was not the case on Friday as they swept their match with the Javelinas to extend their winning streak to 12 matches.

Karolina Glowinska and Vasilisa Polunova got the match started off right with a 6-2 win at two and then immediately after the Javelinas claimed the three doubles contest, the 18th ranked duo of Magda Wawrowska and Anastasia Uspenskaia won 6-3 at one to claim the doubles point.

All but one of the singles matches did not go past a second set. Glowinska won 6-1, 7-5 at six for CU's second point and the 31st ranked Polunova earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at one. No. 35 Lea Manga clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at three before Kateryna Rudenko and Wawrowska both won their matches at four and five.

In the closest match, Uspenskaia won the first set of the battle against No. 56 Alessa Maier 6-4 and then lost by the same score in set two. The freshman then battled to a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker set to claim the win, her 14th singles win of the year to secure the Aggie sweep.

Cameron, who is all alone at the top of the Lone Star Conference standings with a 14-2 overall record and a 4-0 mark in league play, has another big LSC match on Saturday against No. 35 Angelo State beginning at 2 p.m. in Lawton.
