SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Cameron baseball team could not slow down the St. Mary's offense on Saturday, losing both games of the doubleheader 15-9 and 10-2.
After their late-inning comeback came up short in Friday's game one against the Rattlers, losing 9-7, Cameron looked to get back on track in the 7-inning twin bill. The home team had other plans as they handled the CU pitching for 25 runs on the day.
Game one saw St. Mary's come out of the gate and score five runs in the opening two frames. After CU scored single runs in both the third and fourth on RBI singles by
Jayce Clem and
Colby Flood.
The Rattlers put up back-to-back 5-run frames in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 15-2 advantage.
Cameron tried to make another late comeback by scoring three in the sixth and four runs in the seventh with Flood providing another RBI single and
Jordan Harrison-Dudley and
Ryan Allen both driving in runs on base hits during the stretch.
The freshman Flood was 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored in the loss while Harrison-Dudley and
Tyler Coleman each collected two hits with Coleman scoring twice as well.
Marcos Feria was the losing pitcher, giving up eight runs on six hits and four walks to go along with four K's. The remaining three pitchers each gave up at least two runs with no strikeouts in the final 2.2 innings.
St. Mary's scored early again in game two, putting a run on the board in the opening frame, but CU answered with a RBI single by Harrison-Dudley in the top of the second.
The Rattlers then scored eight runs in the bottom of the frame and then added another in the fifth to give them their 10 runs in the win. Cameron's second run came in the top of the fifth when
Ryan Carter singled in Coleman.
Harrison-Dudley, Coleman, Carter, and Flood each had two hits in game one as Cameron totaled nine hits and stranded 10 runners on base. Flood finished the double-header with five hits in five plate appearances.
Of the nine runs
Drew Henderson gave up, only two were earned. The junior also walked four batters and struck out three.
Carter Bourg worked the final two innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.
Now with their second-straight series loss, the Aggies are 11-24 overall and 11-22 in Lone Star Conference play. They will look to hold off the sweep by the Rattlers in the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
