Aggies Drop LSC Crossover Finale

DENTON, Texas. – Cameron drops the Saturday match-up at the Lone Star Conference Crossover to Midwestern State 3-2 at Texas Woman's in the Kitty Magee Arena.

Arianna Navarrete led the Aggies with a double-double, recording 16 kills and 12 digs. Paris Patterson had nine kills, Trinity Maldonado added seven, Natalia Araujo collected five, Caitlyn Henderson spiked four, Anjolie Navarrete recorded three, and Jessica Lipkit had one.

Anjolie Navarrete collected five of the seven aces from Cameron on the day; Meagan Jimenez and Arianna Navarrete had the others.

Anjolie Navarrete dished out 37 assists, Patterson had three, Arianna Navarrete added two, and Jimenez had one.

Patterson had a team-high 17 digs, Araujo and Jimenez scooped 16, Arianna Navarrete grabbed 12, Anjolie Navarrete collected 11, Maldonado added two, and Henderson had one.

Henderson led the Black-and-Gold with nine blocks, Araujo and Anjolie Navarrete collected four, Maldonado added three, Patterson had two, and Arianna Navarrete swatted one.

Midwestern started strong, building an early 1-6 lead. The Aggies were able to get close at 13-15, but the Mustangs would go on to close the set on a 3-10 run, taking the opener 16-25.

Set two was close throughout, with the teams battling, ended up tied at 8-8, then 12-12, but MSU would keep a slight advantage late with an 18-20 lead. A late rally 3-0 run by the Black-and-Gold would give them the lead at 21-20, the teams would then trade scores before tying at 24-24 and 25-25, but Cameron would close the set with a 27-25 win.

Anjolie Navarrete collected three aces during the 8-0 run for the Black-and-Gold to start the third set. The Aggies would build a 10-point lead at 12-2, but MSU would climb back to cut the deficit in half at 16-11. Cameron would not allow the score to get closer than five, closing the set at 25-18.

Midwestern took a 6-2 lead early in the fourth set before stretching it to 10-5. CU would get within two points at 9-11, with a 4-1 run out of a timeout, and later bring it to 13-14. MSU would go on to take set four 20-25.

Cameron would start set five with a 2-0 lead, but a 0-4 run by the Mustangs flipped the script to give MSU the 2-4 lead. CU would tie the set at 4-4, but Midwestern would force the switch at 5-8. MSU uses an 8-2 run to take and extend their lead to 6-12, and then go on to win 9-15.

The Black-and-Gold will host UT Tyler in the Aggie Gym for the home opener on Friday, Sept. 16, at 5:30 pm.
