Aggies Tripped up by SEU

AUSTIN, Texas – The Cameron volleyball team lost to St. Edwards in Saturday afternoon's Lone Star Conference matchup at the RAC.

Arianna Navarrete recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs, Anjolie Navarrete collected 26 digs and 11 assists for her sixth double-double, and Alice Tuci had the first double-double of her career with 11 digs and 10 assists.

Jacee Stelter collected seven kills, Caitlyn Henderson recorded four, Anjolie Navarrete had three, Natalia Araujo scored twice, and Jessica Lipkit and Trinity Maldonado added one.

Anjolie Navarrete led the Aggies with 11 assists, Tuci had 10, Meagan Jimenez recorded five, Araujo dished out two, and Lipkit had one.

The Black-and-Gold would score eight aces on the afternoon, with Jimenez and Anjolie Navarrete scoring two and Araujo, Lipkit, Arianna Navarrete, and Tuci recording one.

Anjolie Navarrete had a team-high 26 digs, Araujo recorded 16, Jimenez and Tuci added 11, Arianna Navarrete scooped 10, and Henderson, Lipkit, and Stelter added three.

Lipkit led the Aggies with four blocks, Henderson and Anjolie Navarrete recorded three, and Araujo, Maldonado, and Arianna Navarrete collected one.

CU came out Saturday with a new lineup after making some adjustments breaking out to a 6-1 lead. After a quick back-and-forth, the Black-and-Gold would stretch their lead to 11-4. SEU would cut the deficit to 15-12, but the Aggies would respond with a 7-0 run to build their lead back to 22-12, taking the set 25-17.

Set two would open with a Hilltoppers 1-9 advantage. SEU would go on to an 8-17 lead. Cameron would use a 5-0 rally to trim the score to 13-17. St. Edwards would respond to each score CU had, with two of their own going on to close out with a 19-25 win.

SEU used a 3-16 lead to open set three before taking the third set with a score of 9-25.

The teams would trade shots opening the fourth set, St. Edwards got ahead 0-2, Cameron responded to tie the set at 2-2, SEU rallied four points to take a 2-6 lead, and the Aggies would cut the score to 5-7. The Hilltoppers would use some errors to build a 5-11 lead. The Black-and-Gold came out of a time-out on a 5-1 rally to cut the score to 10-12. SEU hit back with a run of 0-6 to take a 10-18 lead. CU bounces back with a 5-0 run to cut the score to 15-18. The Aggies would keep clawing, bringing the score to 23-24 but could not stop the Hilltoppers, dropping set four 23-25.

Cameron will host a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 pm, when Northwestern Oklahoma State comes to Lawton.
