Cameron Starts Strong at ITA Regional

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Cameron would go into the ITA Regional with the top two ranked singles, who also make up the top-rated doubles team this weekend at the Weeks Park Tennis Center hosted by Midwestern State.

The Tomas Almeida/Thomas Cardona team would win their first match over a duo from Saint Mary's 8-2, and they would follow that up with an 8-2 victory over the squad from Dallas Baptist. They will face off with a team from MSU on Friday at 2 pm.

The Aggie duo of Emilio Seelbach/Alvaro Chavez would drop their opening match to the UTPB team 8-1. They would fall into the Consolation bracket, defeating the duo from DBU 8-6. They will take on a team from MSU on Friday at 2 pm.

Top-seed Almeida would take down Alec Rule of DBU 6-1, 6-2; he would fall in the second round to Lubbock Christian's Braden Tipton 6-3. 5-7, 7-10.

Cardona, the two seed, bested Sabri Laphitz of LCU 6-0, 3-6. 10-5. He would beat Ryan Koth from StMU 6-3, 6-3, to move into the top-16, and he will face Aaron Capone of DBU at 11 am on Friday.

Joao Duleba, the 10th seed, beat LCU's Carlos Gutierrez 6-0, 6-3 to open the day. He took down DBU's Roman Hill in his second-round match 6-1, 6-0. Duleba will face Charles Heffernan of MSU on Friday.

Chavez took down Herman Aguirre of LCU 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round but fell to UT Permian Basin's Patryk Kosinski 0-6, 3-6 in the second round.

Kristian Kubik would fall to the 12th seed from StMU's Alvaro Soler 2-6, 5-7. Kubik defeated Bradley Neil of DBU in the consolation bracket 6-2, 6-3. He will face Paul Claussen of Western New Mexico on Friday.

Seelbach dropped his first match to Nicolas Llosa of StMU 4-6, 1-6. In the consolation bracket, Seelbach would fall to UTPB's Jonas Krahofer 2-6, 3-6.
