Aggies Unable to Overcome UTPB

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron falls to UT Permian Basin Friday evening in the Aggie Gym in four sets, 25-20, 19-25, 19-25, and 13-25.

The Navarrete sisters led the Black-and-Gold Friday, with both recording their eighth double-double of the season. Arianna Navarrete collected 12 kills and 13 digs, while Anjolie Navarrete turned in 14 assists and 11 digs.


Arianna Navarrete had a game-high 12 kills, Caitlyn Henderson and Anjolie Navarrete added six kills, Jacee Stelter recorded four, Natalia Araujo turned in three, and Jessica Lipkit and Trinity Maldonado added two.

Anjolie Navarrete dished out 14 assists, Alice Tuci added 12 assists, and Meagan Jimenez had four.

Arianna Navarrete dug 13 to lead the Aggies, Anjolie Navarrete scooped 11, Araujo and Jimenez added 10, Tuci grabbed four, Henderson had two, and Stelter added one.


Lipkit, Anjolie Navarrete, and Tuci recorded an ace.

Cameron gathered 23 blocks as a team in the match. Henderson led them with eight, Araujo collected seven, Stelter swatted three, Anjolie Navarrete and Arianna Navarrete had two, and Maldonado added one.


CU started set one 3-0 and, after a 6-0 run, built an early 10-3 lead. The Aggies took advantage of 10 Falcon errors in the first set to win the set 25-20.

The second set started with the Black-and-Gold in a quick hole, down 0-7. UTPB would build a 1-10 lead. Cameron would use a 6-0 rally to trim the score to 10-12. UTPB responded with a 2-6 run to stretch their lead to 12-18, going on to hold on and take the set 19-25.


In set three, the teams would be tied 5-5 early. Permian Basin used a 0-4 run to get ahead 5-9, and they would rally five straight points to build an 8-15 advantage. A five-point rally by the Aggies would cut the deficit to 13-15. CU could not overcome the Falcons falling 19-25 in the third set.


Cameron started set four 2-0, but a quick 0-4 run by UTPB would give them the lead; they would stretch their lead to 9-4 after another 0-5 rally. The Falcons would extend their lead to 8-19 with a 0-6 run. UTPB would close the match with a 1-4 rally, taking the final set 13-25.


The Black-and-Gold will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 pm in the Aggie Gym, when they host Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference matchup.
